Cruise Control
Hey guys, I just bought a 1995 Bronco yesterday. In great shape. It has some mechanical issues, I have a clunk when i take off, and when i stop. The rear engine seal is leaking. Im going to have those replaced i just dont want to deal with working on that rite now. I will however tackle this problem. I just started testing and i dont have any power at the fuse in the dash. My cruise dont work and my ABS light stays on. What do you guys think is the problem?

The cruise control was a leaky break pressure switch on the master cylinder. It was prone to leaking brake fluid. Mine leaked and shorted out the wiring harness, which also shorted the crap out of the cruise control assembly plug for wires 9 (signal from the switch) and 10(gnd). It also eventually blew a transistor in the assembly which in turn basically gave me a 12V short to ground. If you unplug the 10 pin harness, you should not have continuity between these two pins on the cruise control assembly. They would be the far left two pins if you're standing over the drivers side panel looking at it. (your plug should also not be melted at these two pins) However, if they were shorted and the fuse was in and the brake pressure switch was plugged in, the assembly would be going up in smoke. At first mine just blew the fues (#13 i think) then it got to the point where it wouldn't trip the fuse and just go up in smoke. I'd check those two pins, check that fuse. If the fuse is blown, then you couldn't get it out of park though. So the only other thing I could guess if it is related to the recall problem is that the brake pressure switch is not plugged in. Ford wanted $300 for a new module, i picked one up at the junk yard for $25 off a 97 F150. Works real smooth now.

I looked and it looks like i have a bypass on it already. That should be ok. Also in my drive way if i just tap the brakes it will lock up. No feeling in the petal. I have other problems that i would also like to discuss. Heres another problem, When i turn on my wipers i can hear the relay on the passengers side. When i go through the settings the speeds dont change, When i get the the last big line before it goes to the non stop one they have a long time before they go up ( like its on the lower levels) But when i hold a little pressure on the turn switch and goes normal, if it dont then the relay goes crazy. If that makes n e sence? Im just going to have to pick away at it

King i have a trouble shooting guide for the cruise control i got out of the electrical and vaccum troubleshooting manual. I'll try to attach it here.file:///E:/Documents%20and%20Setting...rvo%20Assy.bmp

Here's how I fixed the cruise control on my '95 Bronco a couple years ago. Assuming you've checked all the electrical issues and they're OK, find the control module under the hood, the one with the cable coming out of it that goes to the throttle. Unscrew the top of the module, inside you'll see the mechanical mechanism. When the cruise is "activated", using the SET button, an electromagnet is energized in the mechanism, that allows one gear to make contact with another gear on the control servo, thereby moving the CC throttle cable. When turned "off", the two gears seperate.
Sorry, I'm writing this from memory as I don't have my Bronco anymore, but what I discovered was wrong was that the "sliding" gear wasn't making full contact with the other gear when the electromagnet was energized, due to age & some corrosion. So, I freed it up and lubed it with WD-40, reassembled, tested & it worked since. This is probably not all that uncommon on these trucks, over 10 years old.
Hope this helps anyone out there.

Crap, I hate to revive a 5 year old thread but I thought I had what I was hoping to find.
I'm trying to to fix the cruise on the 1994 Bronco I just bought. It had no horn and the airbag light was flashing but I just put in a new dorman clockspring and now the horn works and the airbag light no longer flashes but still no cruise.
I've checked the motor in the module on the fender and it's nice and free plus all the fuses are good.
Does anybody have the trouble shooting guide that autx790 tried to post? Or anything else that can help.
Thanks,
Bob
