help me, i feel like im about to commit..... i dont know, somthing seriously wrong! well here it is. after a year of back pain, i finally have come to the decision that my f-250 just rides to ruff. i was all set to go back to a 150 wen my wife convinced me to "go look at" a chevy and dodge. seeing as how much i love diesel (which i do!!) i agreed. couldnt even get 25 feet on the cheby lot, i started shaking and sweating and asked my wife if we could leave. she agreed and we made are way to the dodge lot. but unfortunetly, this is where i was impressd. not only was i greeted to the sweet sound of the 5.9 cummins, but the truck rode like a cadillac! (only better cause it wasnt a GM). i took this truck over railroad tracks and pot holes that make me tense in fear in my f-250 and the dodge just crusied right over them, painlessly. i know the knock on dodge is that there interior falls apart. is there anything else?? ive been a ford guy all my life and i would like to stay that way, but the ride of that dodge and my pained back is making my mind stray, please talk me out of it!!

I don't know what this will yield - just a thought.
Go test drive a used truck of the same model you were impressed with. Something about 2-3 years old. If you're still impressed then it is a good sign that the "ride" won't turn sour too soon.
I've ridden in vehicles that were sweet off the show room floor, but were crap after just a few thousand miles.
What shocks are on your 2006 Ford? Are you still running the crap stock shocks?
That is where your problem is at. I don't know why people dont just get rid of the stock shock the minute the get off of the lot, ( should get rid of the front hubs, and lockouts too. This also applies to the dodge) I believe that if you are comparing apples to apples, and using equal trucks that utilize front coils, then you will find that with the proper shock, your F250 can also ride like a Cadillac. Funny how guys that hate G.M vehicles always compare the ride of their truck to a Cadillac (G.M.).
Nonetheless, I feel if you give another shock a try, you will not have to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and you will get to keep your signature..."keep it ford"
These can be tough decisions. I am partial to Ford too, proof of my being here and I have honestly not looked elsewhere for my trucks, though I have been curious in the past. I would look into the shocks too. Also tire pressure can be a huge difference in the ride quality.

a few thousand dollars wisely spent on suspension upgrades ie... softride springs & GOOD SHOCKS (like Bilstien) can make a world of difference in youre ride quality with out setteling for Dodges fallapart body & interior trim (wich I think is made by Matell toys) not to mention the infuriating electrical problems that plague chrystler products (Ithink Lucas must make their electrical sys....lol, stick with it you can get a comperable ride in that ford & it will last for many more years than the rattle traps of GM & Dodge! but I'm not biased or any thing.

Stay away from the Chevy. My Dad has back troubles and recently took along trip in his Dodge. Long days of driving. Long story short, his back was screwed when he got home. He went to the Chiropractor and they said he should be glad he was not in a CHEVY because from a Chiropractic point of view chevy puts you in the worst seating position of the big three.

thanks guys, i have considered bilstien shocks, and switching to lariat seats. i think that might do the trick. im also counting long term reliabilty into it. the cummins is a huge draw. not to knock my 6.0, so far its been great 17k trouble free miles. the tranny has been clunking aroud but no issues yet (knock on wood). also wanting to step up to a full 4 door, and although the interior of the new 08 is great, i just came from my local ford dealer and there were 8 on the racks. six of them sold less than 3 weeks ago. no first year engine for me. plus im not into the who dpf mess. i guess im just thinking this is my last chance to get the old school reliable 5.9 cummins with a warranty. but dont worry, im not jumpin yet!!

I read a lot of posts on shocks - most of which suggested Bilstiens. So I ordered some. Then later, I ran into a whole bunch of posts from people who said they did Bilstiens based on this forum and were not happy. "They don't live up to the hype" was the consensus.
I had second thoughts, returned the Bilstiens, and went with the Rancho 9000X shocks. They are adjustable - a small dial on the shock to change the firmness of the ride. I'll never regret that choice. Adjustability for highway/offroad/towing - lifetime warranty. Great ride.
My friend, who is a die-hard Dodge man and don't believe there is any engine but a Cum-a-part, bought a new 04 3/4 ton Dodge. Right before I bought my 04 F250. He just replaced the clutch, he burned the old one up trying to pull an eighteen wheeler. He does this all the time. You think he would learn. All I've done is drive mine. He has had his in the shop three or four times until the warranty run out. Then he started working on it his self.

Can't believe this.I traded in my 2001 Dodge 2500 cummins automatic for my 05 F-350 PSD.The Dodge would flat beat the s*** out of me.My F-350 is much smoother ride but I would say it has to do with the suspension package because when I was test driving the fords, some of the 350's rode even softer than the one I bought.I think because mine has the camper package. The Dodge would have me pissin like a woman, every 10 min..Also.the Dodge automatic,if you don't mind doing 50 mph or less up hill with a load,OK.If you want semi's to pass you going uphill with a load,OK.Otherwise, better get a stick.Personally,I like automaticsfor the ease and LOVE MY FORD.WAY WAY out pull that Dodge on grade.Second day with the Ford,Got pulled over going 70 UPHILL with my 24'Bayliner,gear,and was accelerating!! GUARANTEE,the Dodge could not even THINK about doing that.I had it for 4 years and towed with it almost every day.FORD all the way!
