Well after seeing the kit MBRP offers and MagnaFlows, they look pretty much identical....and those to me look like normal tips. I will swing by the shop and ask.

Would it even be possible to get rid of the DPF on these trucks? I mean I'm sure anyone could hack it off, but what will happen when it goes into regeneration mode? Not real sure, but I think she might turn into a flamethrower!

I called and asked him about it and he said I am fine with the tip I have, and the intercooled tips dont make that much of a diffrence. So far I have put 200 miles on since the exhaust and not one issue.

the guy at the shop won't be the one to ask, i highly doubt he qualified to say that the intercooled tips do not make a difference

All I can say is that it is ILLEGAL to remove the DPF for anything other that a factory cleaning. Maybe a Ford tech will chime in and tell you all about the DPF.

This guy's shop is here in So Cal and it's a very reputable exhaust shop. He is by no means an amateur. If he didnt know he wouldn't guess, thats just the way the guy works. I have confindence in everything he does, and all my past project vehicles have turned out flawless.

Ask him if he anticipates any problems with that tip not cooling down the 1200 degree regen temps that will be comeing out of that puppy. Maybe he just doesnt under stand that the exhaust gets re-heated at the DPF during a regen and exhaust temps will climb right up to 1200 degrees or so and unless there is an intercooled tip to allow some cooler air to mix with that exhaust flow it could be a problem.

Not a problem man, I will talk with again this week to update him. Not if it matters, but I just took a 10 min drive to the store and back and the exhaust tip was hardly warm. All his opinion was, is that the intercooled tips doesnt do as much as they claim. Like I said, if he thought it could be an issue he wouldn't have done it. This guy is a complete Ford guy and knows alot about the new diesel. Does anyone know of a manufacture who sells intercooled tips?

So I am lookin all over the net, and from what I saw the MBRP kit said nothing about an intercooled tip the kits I saw from them? I even went to their home site and it just says a 5" double walled tip which is exactly what I have. Now I know the MagnaFlow tip comes intercooled, so where did you see that?

jvoigt is exactly right. This isn't to say someone won't try to do it. The EPA made it a mandate that all 2007 diesel engines be equipped with an anti defeat device that would render the engine powerless in the event a dpf is removed and not reinstalled. Essentially, the engines software will recognize that the dpf is missing and will derate the engine similar to what it will do when the exhaust outlet temp reaches too high of a temperature.

The other thing that sux about the new emissions legislation is it puts a damper on power chips. The new engines run in a high Nox/low soot mode all of the time so the dpf is loaded with the same amount of soot regardless of engine load. Since the DPFs on these trucks don't have a DeltaP sensor to measure the difference in pressure between each side of the filter, the engine's software is programmed to regen at specific intervals knowing how much soot it has produced based on a calculation. If a powerchip is installed and doesn't take into account any additional soot produced above what the engine thinks is being produced, there is a good chance the dpf will become plugged before a regen takes place. The catalyst also needs a source of oxygen to cause the exotherm reaction. The extra NOx provides this source. It is later burned off by the catalyst like a gas burner's catalytic converter reduces Nox.

Ok I was mistaken about the MBRP systems. From what I can tell the single exit kits do not have any type of intercooling but the Cool Dual kits do have Inter-cooled pipes....not the tips but their are louvers in the pipe right before the area where the tip connect's, they have picture's of the single-out and Dual-out kits but only in the pictures for the dual-out kit can you see what there answer is for the intercooling which appears to be louvers on the pipe.

Interesting thread I thought I'd re-visit.

Very interesting conversation that's not making much sense.
