Cluster change 72 Ranchero GT

Anyone have any experience changing stock cluster for Gauge cluster. The gauge cluster has a large black plug. When I pulled my stock one out there is no connector in the dash for this extra plug. I guess I expected all of the major wiring to be there but if it is I haven't found it yet.

Thanks, John

Don't think that you'll be able to make that change without the harness that goes to that cluster. I picked up a guage cluster for my torino. I had to get the plug from the harness and build a mini harness to have all the right inputs. Ford made a guage harness/plug and an idiot light harness/plug - not a combination harness.

Thanks for the response Chuck. I was lucky to find a nice72/3 cluster and the main plug in the cluster is plug and play interchangeable. I had to do a couple of splices for the tach and clock. I found a junker and retreved a junction block and piece of harness for the ammeter, then did some minor wiring change at the solenoid and regulator. I met a guy on another site and he helped me get through it. With the right cluster it's not difficult, just a little time consuming.

Thanks again,
John
