Question on 2007 4WD system
I take it the normal "4WD Auto" mode is like AWD, meaning it's used for wet and dry surfaces. And that 4HI is a locked-transfer case mode, meaning it's only to be used in snow and mud, same as 4LO, correct?
I currently have an F-150 and am very careful not to use 4HI unless the surface is slippery. One of the reasons I like the Sport Trac is the Auto mode.

The 4x4 switch for the Controltrack should show, left to right, AUTO,4x4,4x4lo.
you should be in the
you should be in the
- AUTO position for everyday driving(shifts as required),
- you may shift into 4x4hi on the fly, this actuats an electro magnetic clutch, putting power to the front shaft, wet/slippery surfaces only.
- 4x4lo is actuated at the stop with foot on brake and the transmission in N , this shifts a gear in the T/C to give you low range.
