1959 F100 Research - Help Please....

Hello - I'm the new guy here. And I am so glad I found this place. I recently purchased a 1959 F100 2wd Styleside PU. I'm trying to identify a few items on this truck and would greatly appreciate any assistance you may have.

VIN Location:
I've read online that the VIN should be stamped on the top side of the frame between the cab and front bumper. I've looked here as well as the reachable places from the cab to the back bumper but have not been able to find it. I used a mirror and flashlight for the areas that weren't very accessible. Any ideas on where it may be? Is it small or is it large like the stamp on the motor?

Motor:
The VIN in the glovebox indicates that this truck has a 292, but the Engine Block is stamped with the following - ECG6015A #44 and has 535:4 or 635:4 (It's a bit hard to read even after scraping). According to what I've been able to find online I believe this is a 272. Can anyone verify this? And is it possible that this is the correct motor for this truck? My research says that this truck should have a 292 based on the VIN in the glove box.

The motor runs, but needs some carburetor work. Any opinions on the differences between a 272 and a 292?

Transmission:
3 Speed Manual on the column. The side of the transmission reads: AB-7222-B There's also an upside down F and a rightside up 15. The bottom of the tranny says: 24 93X: . Any idea on what this particular tranny is and where I can find information on it?

The tranny is currently working well.

Rear end:
The pumpkin looks to be in the center of the rear axle. Around the drive line side it reads in a circular pattern:
WAT B2 92E 5. Any ideas on what the details are or where I can reference these numbers?

Thanks for your assistance. We're just happy to be here!

Be patient, some one like the Col. Flashman who has knowledge of these years will be along before long to help you out. Maybe numberdummy or dueller will chime in as well.

On my 1960 pickup it is on the top of the passenger's side frame rail, directly over the axle, between the two holes in the top of the frame and on the outboard edge of the rail. With 47 years worth of krud, it was very hard to find. The letters are about 1/4" tall and the VIN is about 4" long. My inner fender hangs over the frame rail enough to pretty well hide the VIN. My Canadian-build 1960 panel has the VIN on the driver's side, forward of the axle.

Here is a photo of my pickup's VIN location. (There is a 6" ruler laying on the top of the frame opposite to the VIN.)

Please let us know where you find your VIN.

The vin should be on the top of the frame, below the battery and forward a little. I couldn't see mine till I got out the wire brush and scuffed up the frame.WELCOME

Welcome and congrats on one fine ride. I really enjoyed your great gallery.
Awesome tow unit too.
Most of the time the frame vin is very hard to see as it`s a faint stamping and with rust/dirt almost impossible to spot.

VIN CODE FOR 292: C .. 272'S WERE USED THRU 1958. .. ARE YOU SURE YOUR TRUCK IS A 1959? .. THE 5TH DIGIT IN THE VIN IS THE YEAR 9 = 1959.

The motor runs, but needs some carburetor work. Any opinions on the differences between a 272 and a 292? SIMILAR

Any idea on what this particular tranny is and where I can find information on it? AB-7222-B IS NOT THE TRANS CODE, IT IS THE FORD ENGINEERING NUMBER FOR THE SIDE PLATE. THE TRANS IS A FORD LIGHT DUTY 3 SPEED MANUAL.

Rear end:
The pumpkin looks to be in the center of the rear axle. Around the drive line side it reads in a circular pattern:
WAT B2 92E 5. Any ideas on what the details are or where I can reference these numbers? THE FORD 9 INCH REAR END DOES NOT HAVE A COVER ON THE BACK. THE SPICER 44 WAS ALSO USED IN SOME OF THESE TRUCKS...IT DOES HAVE A COVER ON THE BACK..HELD ON WITH TEN BOLTS.

Thanks for your assistance. We're just happy to be here! BLP
Welcome to FTE

If you wish, I can decode the entire info stamped on your VIN plate...post all the numbers. The rear end ratio is prolly a 3.70-1 or a 3.89-1. Both were used at that time for V8/3 speed combos.

Thanks for everyones help and the warm welcome! I posted pics yesterday evening ..... "BLP 59' F100" for everyone to see.

We are still searching for the VIN......we looked between the 2 bolt holes on the Drivers/Passenger area of the frame in the engine compartment. Nothing so far but these areas will be ready for paint soon. We're going to continue cleaning the frame working our way towards the cab. Hopefully we'll find it .....Maybe so, Maybe no. We'll report back what we find.

Howdy Bill - Thanks for the feedback. I'd appreciate your assistance with the VIN Plate information that is in the glove box.

Thanks Bobby, I appreciate the warm welcome.

Thanks Bill - You are quick my man!
I think the F10C does actually read F100. It's a bit hard to read.
Is the 3.70-1 Rear End consistent with with the Spicer 44 or the Ford 9"?
The rear end is solid on the back with a drain plug. The Side where the Drive line attaches has 10 bolts attaching it to the bowl in the axle. Protruding from that is a bolt on section with about 6 bolts that the drive line attaches to. I can send pics if it helps....let me know.

272 Y-Block
I don't know anything, except what I've recently read about the Y-Block motors. The 272 that's in it runs, but other than that I don't know anything about it. I grew up working on 289, 302, 351W, 351C and 460's. We would like to consider keeping it going as long as we can. Any advice on what to check for road readiness on this particular motor would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

Your Line one number is the same number that is stamped on the frame so I wouldn't worry unless the glove box door is a replacement.

The 272 is essentially the same block and the cylinders can be bored to a 292. I rebuilt a 272 and the parts are essentially the same except the piston sizes, rings. I think the 292 rebuild parts are a little cheaper.

My VIN number was on the passenger side frame just in front of the firewall. It is on the top rail and is bracketed by two stars.
