New Trailer Wiring

I just added a new Trailer wiring plugin (7 pin) to my new step bumper on my 1982 F250

Everything works when plugged in but I now have a problem in that the rear lights are quite dim and the turn signals flash way faster (on the truck also) when hooked up to my snow machine trailer (the truck's turn signals go back to normal as soon as I unplug the trailer).
The trailer lights worked just fine prior to the new plug so I think I can pretty much eliminate the trailer's wiring as the culprit.
Any ideas? bad ground?
The faster turn signal thing has me concerned as well as the dim light being emmitted.

You need a HD flasher unit in the truck, the older versions aren't strong enough to flash the truck and the trailer.
