We had a OD tranny in a '57 Ford station wagon we owned when I was little. My dad said it would get in the 22 or more miles per gallon on the highway. I'd love to find one of those(the transmission, that is), but they are getting scarce and pricy.

I wouldn't mind a Ford wagon of that vintage, either!

My dad had a '67 Country Squire, loaded to the gills, but with a 3-sp/OD. With a little 289 it hauled us from Chicago to Tampa at 60 mph and gave 20 mpg. If I remember correctly, it was not synchro 1st?
