I have a set of Sanderson FF427's in the garage waiting to go on this weekend. I'll post something in the exhaust section next week

 

What header are you using? I would think that you could use a header made for any 73-76 F150 with an FE. The term "low boy" only refers to F250 4x4s made after mid production year 1977 with a lower ride height than the 67-77.5 F250 4x4 "high boys".

I've only ever run long tubes so I can't help with shorties.

 

Could the headers in question (not fitting with the driveshaft) be for a 2wd?

 

Possibly. Could also be that they are made for a "high boy". The extra ride height gives more clearance. I've seen some of those that without that extra 3-4" of height look like they would interfere with the front shaft.

A lot of people have been happy running the Hedmans you mentioned. I've ran the Hooker 6905s and they fit well, they just don't come with any type of collector gasket/bolt on setup. If you change exhaust piping behind them you have to cut/reweld.

 

I don't know what kind of header they are, they were on the truck when I got it. It didn't have a front driveshaft at the time. I'll try to get some pics this weekend. It has about 8 inches of lift and it still hits.

 

Do you still have these headers? I have a 65 galaxie with three on the tree and would love to get my hands on some.

 

They might still have them, but you might try the classified section for some more current posts than from 3 years ago.

 

Quite a few guys use the Sanderson header on 1967 - 1976 trucks with a FE engine. I've seen nothing but good reports. I think the part number posted is the correct. Go look at HighhoSiler's build thread on his low buck long bed, he has some good pictures of the Sanderson headers bolted up and installed in truck. It's in the 1967-1972 forum. He has a stock starter as well.

 

Ye they will. You just have to take a good sized notch out of the top of the passenger side frame rail.

Here's one to watch out for. I have a pre emmissions '67 ford truck with a 352. I put hooker headers on it sometime back and have always had a hard time making them seal.

I recently had a 390 build for the truck. This motor has Edelbrock aluminum heads on it. I am having the same problem, only worse.

Here's what I have found out. Pre emmissions era heads have the exhaust ports about a 1/4" lower. Same goes for the Edelbrock heads.

So for those of you with Old truck or new heads, watch out for this. I first started seeing this mismatch when replacing the gaskets that kept burning up.

No one in this thread has mentioned this so I thought I would bring it up. I'm going to call Sanderson and Flowtech and see what they have to say.

Thanks for bringing that up. I was also told there were two different positions of the exhaust outlets. Since I'm considering the same Sanderson shorties, I'm very interested to see what you find out. I'm running a 1973 year 390 in my 1966. Thanks for blazing the trail!

 

Since this thread is beyond hijacked I thought I would throw a couple questions in there... I think I will be coughing up the dough for a decent set of sandersons...

First - with the ceramic coating, is there a need for additional insulation?
Second - how do you get the vehicle to the exhaust shop with only headers on? Or is the fun part?

 

I don't know about hijacked....seems we're still discussing short headers for 390's...but regarding insulation...on the Sanderson website they say that the warranty is void if you wrap the headers. Unless you're referring to another type of insulation.
I don't know about driving with open headers...it's illegal in my area. So I guess build your own exhaust , or trailer.
