Question Electric Heat In '08?

Did I read that the 08 has electric heat for back-up until the normal system heats up? Brian

it's a supplemental heater that works until the engine gets up to temp. (an option avail. only with the diesel) So you read right.

You know, I never thought of that. I have no idea whats involved... parts-wise, and if it's something that can be retro-fitted.

Living in Seattle area this is something I really enjoy on my 08. After sitting all day I start the truck and there is immediate warm air coming out. Cab is warmed up in no time as if the engine were already at normal operating temperature. I believe it uses technology similar to an electrical space heater I would assume. Can smell the coils warming up for about 2 seconds whenever it's used. It's definetely worth the money though for those of you that are living in a cooler climate!

That was my thought! Does it have an automatic thermostat, or just manual on and off? It'd be awesome here in Denver!

It's a non user input device that turns on and off automatically based on engine temp. I have automatic climate control, not sure if it is available on manual based HVAC, but I would assume so.

It works very well. It is similar to a toaster element. There is an electric current that runs through a resistnace to heat up the element. It is contained in the heater box in the same proximety as the heater core. I belive that it is actually interfaced with the climate controll. It will heat my crew cab up in 3-4 minunites.

For some reason it's only available on the autos, not the 6-speed.

how warm is the air that comes out the vent with urs. I have the same thing and there is no way its warming up the truck in 3-4 minutes. (Maybe mine has an issue)

The air to me coming out of the vent by feel isnt really any warmer.

Mine gives off warm air 100 yards down the road. Temps have only been about 28* here so it warms the cab with in 3-4 minutes like JEEPSTER401 said. Very pleased with it. Another great thing about the 08's, you have to drive to believe.

I don't know how warm the air is temp whise. It is very close to the same temp as the air coming out when the truck is up to temp but the volume of air coming out is not as much. My cab is warm before my watrer temp gauge even thinks about moving, so i don't think that I am even going to bother with remote start.

I am not sure temp wise. It is close if not the same temp as when the truck is up to running temp. The only thing that I noticed is that the volume of air coming out is not as much as when the water is up to temp and the heat is coming from the heater core and not the element. My guess is that it is because to much air across the element would cool the element off to quickly and the air would become cold, but I don't know I didn't design it.
