Rear Window Defrost...more like Defect

I have a 92, In my rear window I have a group of 3 defrost lines which are not defrosting. They are in the lower middle of the window. I dont see any defects in the lines. All other lines defrost correctly. Im assuming there is nothing I can do short of getting a new rear window, but I thought Id check.

They make a repair kit for that purpose.
around $7-10.
Available at most auto parts places.
What you do is, take some masking tape and tape along the existing wire lines leaving a thin space between the tape (width of wire)and take the small brush apply some wire mend compound and join the broken ends.
Let dry for a while, remove the tape and Presto!,the defroster works again.

I have a 95 EB Bronco and only my top 4 lines work on my rear defroster. I looked at all the lines and did not find a tear anywhere. I don't know what the problem is? It's starting to **** me off!!!!!!!!

Im having the same problem, I cant find any tears/cracks. Even if they are cracked, shouldn't they work up until the crack? If group of 3 entire lines is not working, This must mean that each line has 2 cracks, one at each end. Ill have to get my magnifying glass out. I dont think there cracked, It must be somthing else...

I had the same problem on my mustang. I used the kit to fix it, and I used a ohm tester to find where the breaks are(some are very very small) it worked just fine

hey guys..... consider yourself lucky. Last winter i turned my rear defrost on, 96 Bronco, after about 30 minutes i noticed a burning smell and saw smoke coming from the back of my truck. before i could pull over the rear window shattered. it never turned itself off and just kept getting hotter until it blew. so yes i have the rear defect also.484.00 dollar defect.

I have the same promblem but get nothing. Also checked for crackes and seen nothing. I tested the whole grid with a test light and there was power at all points.I'm starting to think it may be a bad ground. I'm lost.

Count your lucky stars that you can test yours. I bought mine and someone had already put tinting on the inside of the rear glass. Now that winter is here, only the top 4 line worked. But just for a while. Now the top 2 and fourth work, but not the 3rd. Tint is best i've ever seen. Don't want to pull it off. Don't see any breaks and with the tint I can't see how they realy could. Any help?

What do you set the ohmeter on to check for breaks in the defrost lines? Doesn't an ohmeter have pos and neg lines coming off of it. What do you press them to, to get a reading? I've got to fix mine, it's driving me crazy.

Look over the wires very closely, with enough light outside to reveal any defects. You're looking for breaks in the wires. If you seen any, fix them with a few coats of the metalized paint. typically, the breaks are often caused by corrosion near the sides, where we don't clean the glass as often.
If you fix all the defects you can see, and that still leaves wires that don't work, test the resistance in those individual wires. You're looking for areas in the bad wires that are "open" but the fault is not visible. Set your vom to ohms and place the leads on either side of each line of wires..it doesn't matter which lead is used..pos or neg on either side. do this test without the rw def on.
