2001 Ranger: Flashing "O/D Off" light

Hey, guys.
I have a 2001 V6 4.0L Ranger with automatic transmission.
The last few weeks my Ranger seemed to struggle a little when the engine switched to 2nd gear. It seemed that it went a little longer before switching gears - the tachometer seemed to a little higher but not dangerously. I wasn't sure if it was just something in my head or not so I ignored it as it didn't really seem to be a problem.
This morning on the way to work, my overdrive light started blinking - it's the "O/D Off" light on the dash. It blinked all the way to work and I noticed that now when the engine goes into 2nd gear, it's more of a jerk than a smooth transition. The higher gears seem fine - no problems at all but the "O/D Off" light continued to blink. I pressed the overdrive button on the gear shift (do you still call it a gear shift on an automatic?) repeatedly but it had no effect.

Any ideas?

I did a search here for "O/D Off" but no hits came up.

Any help would be most appreciated.

This indicates that the tranny has gone into limp mode, get the codes pulled and post.

And check the oil level.
Ironically enough, I just changed the oil yesterday. I checked the level when I got to work today since that seemed like a strange coincidence but it was fine.
