Starter conversion

Hey
Does anyone know if a 272/292 will fit on a late model Flathead.
They probably don't have the same part number since one runs on 6 volt and the Y blocks are on 12V.

Thanks

How about a 12 volt Flathead starter???

FAH-11002-A .. Starter ~ 12 Volts 239 V8 Fits: 1952/53 F4-F5-F6 & F5~F6 COE.

Haven't a klew where one can be found....

A shop that specializes in starters/generators/alternators can rewind and convert your old starter. You might give Santa Monica Generator a call..area code is 310.

A 6volt positive ground starter will work just fine with 12 volts negative. I've built quite a few flatheads and converted several to 12 volts. You have to put 12 volt neg ground field coils into the generators, but you don't have to do anything to the starters. I think you could put the field coils from a Y-block starter (the Y-block has 3 mounting bolts while the flathead has two mounting bolts and a front bracket) into the flathead starter if you wanted to, but it really isn't necessary.
