trying not to screw this up!!!

Okay, i have a 2001 F250 crew cab 4x4 psd with a 6" lift and 35" tires. I want to put it back to stock height with regular tires. My friend has a 2004 F250 super cab 4x4 psd with a 10" lift and 35"tires.

He is going to swap me his old original suspension, rims and tires for mine. I have his old leaf springs now and will be putting them on my truck monday. My question is: will i need to put any blocks/pads (1", 2", etc...) under the rear springs or do they sit directly on the rear axle, or axle seat?

i just want to make sure i have the set-up right to get back to normal before i get up to the shop and realize i do not have an integral part and that hinders me from getting it back together. He did not give me any blocks or pads, but that does not mean they are not supposed to be there. Any advice, comments or up close pics of 2004 front and rear stock suspension mounting would be greatly appreciated!!!! thanks in advance!

you need to put the orginal 2.5 inch spacers between the springs and the axle, or a set of 4 inch spacers. the spacers have the bump stop on them.

my 2 cents

I have seen about a dozen trucks that have had 8" to 10" lifts on them and the stock wheel and tire package on them......Thats pretty weird....I guess they spent all there money to get the highest lift and then barely had enough money to buy wheels and tires lol.

whats funny is that he spent a fortune on the rims and tires too! i agree, it looks a little strange but hey, i'm for whatever gets you through thte night.

I want to go back to stock because i am in and out of my truck all day long and it is a pita to climb up and down that many times a day. also, whoever lifted my truck did not do a very good job as it has blocks in the front as well as blocks in the back. i did'nt even think that was legal.

anyway, i am also trying to get a measurement on the front u-bolts for the factory suspension. i can get the backs from advance or napa, but the fronts have to be custom bent and the stealer said they could not order them and had no idea what the measurements were. lousy stealership in my town i might add. anyone have any clue as to what the exact measurements would be? i measured and got .5625" diameter x 3.125" leg-to-leg x 8.5" long. BUT the guy i am ordering them from says the standard is either 3" or 3.5" not 3.125". any suggestions here?

Blocks in the front -------------SCARY!!!! On getting the right stuff, if your dealership can't order the right bolts, you really ought to look into getting a different dealership. That should be a simple order. Another route would be to look at one of the site sponsors. powerstrokeshop.com would be a great option. I might be wrong, but I think they are an actual ford dealer with an internet portal. You can browse the listings on the internet, or give them a call and they can help you that way. Same for the rear blocks. For a couple hundred bucks you should be able to get everything you need to put that truck back down on earth. If the truck is modded the way you say it is, it is most likely the original springs with just blocks. Ubolts for the front, blocks for the back+bolts, maybe a pitman arm and a trac bar bracket and you should be in business.

Have you tried a salvage yard? Some of them specialize in Ford parts.

Wink

try here http://www.autop.com/ or here http://ranchofordtruck.com/

Google is your friend, i did a search for

"ford salvage yard" and got 1420 hits
"used ford parts" 35400
"used ford truck parts" 30800
"pick a part" 84600

Most of these places probably arn't going to want to pull some U bolts and ship them to you but you might find 1 close enough to give them a call?

good luck

car-parts.com is a great autoparts locator for salvage yards. I wouldn't go with used u-bolts though. It is pretty much considered to be not a good idea, especially on the front. For the cost of new ones, it is not worth the risk of getting one that has stress cracks or has been weakend by overtorquing.

edit - I checked that first website I gave you and they list new u-bolts for $5.89 each. Callem monday and they should be able to hook you up. Then call your stealership and rub it in their face
