Where's OUR Horsepower?

Maybe Dearborn Derek can pass this along to the engineers, would love to hear their reasons why we're getting the short end of the stick. Was talking with Big F350 ( Ranchero/ Econoline Forum- Australian Ranchero Thread), down in Australia their N.A. 5.4 puts out 389 h.p. with the same emissions as ours! Worse yet, it's bumping up to 435 h.p. next year! They also have a 4.0 inline six that gets 25 m.p.g. and gets turbo'd next year to the tune of 420 h.p. !! Check out his gallery, notice how uncluttered his engine compartment is in his Falcon Ute, a vehicle that would definitely sell here. If their emission requirements are indeed as strict as ours, then where the hell is our horsepower? We need that 389 horses desperately in our heavy trucks!

I'd agree, if the MPG's are with it...how many folks would buy a truck these days that get 5 or 6 MPG's at 3+ bucks a gallon?

I went to Ford's Australia site but didn't see a truck that had the 5.4L in it. Biggest pickup was the Ranger.

The 5.4 is in his Falcon UTE. Notice his Ranger was a crew cab? Not available here, either!

That 5.4L is the 4V. I guess it is similar to what used to be in the Navigator.

It needs more torque but I'd take a 348/368 4V V8, I guess. BTW, the specs said it makes 260kW which converts to 348HP...not 389. Where did that number come from or did I convert it worng?

Those are Big F350's numbers, read them in his posts. Don't know myself how to convert that metric garbage, just an old CUBIC INCH boy!!

I think if the 4V was a viable product for Ford they would have kept it here in the US. Not sure the exact reasons why they dumped it. 'Course only thing it powered here was the pre-03 Navigator. It was rated at 300HP then.

Gues we'll have to wait for them to build a whole new engine to get the HP/TQ "bragging rights". The way I see it is we can only legally drive 75mph in the US (in certain places). Our current 5.4L accomplishes that no problem even towing 10K. What's everybody's hurry??

I live in SC our highest posted limit is 70. But there are plenty of places where 90, 95 are accepted cruising speeds and you will never get a ticket for it in those areas (yes our trucks accomplish that fine as well) out in Montana they have sections with no posted max speed limit during the day. When I have my truck out offroad and just screwin around. Hookin up to someone else's truck to see who can pull who I sure do wish I had more power.

if we get the horsepower and torque up to about at least 390 HP and 430 TQ then everybody else would have to say damn i wish i was a ford guy because now their trucks have that once missing element, the power to make us shut up

you really can't say our trucks are ugly, like the new silverado an Toyota
you really can't say our trucks are unreliable
you really can't say our trucks can't tow or haul large loads
but unfortunately right now they can say that we have weak power, compared to their trucks, but 300 HP is a lot but it seems everybody is getting more powerful and we must stay in that game as well and ford better make the right decision and go ahead and put that 6.2L in their truck no later the the 09 models that will be out hopefully in middle 08

you're forgetting the 5.4 4v in the 2000 Cobra R... 385/385. I would definately wager that motor would make 400/400 with today's electronics easily...

everyone's hurry is the competition the F150s facing... 381hp toyotas, 367hp chevys, 375hp hemi dodges and 315 hp nissans... it's simply a fact of the f150 being due for a redesign; it was great when it came out, it needs an update nowadays

it would be good if they could keep the low end torque with that horse power order

Like already mentioned; the Cobra had a N/A 4V 5.4 and the CURRENT Shelby uses a Blown 5.4 DOHC 4V.

And while it was only with us a short while; Ford's crown jewel GT used an aluminum block, dry sump DOHC 5.4 4V.

This subject is very frustrating to me because Ford HAS the goods in their parts bin to offer us the power crown.
