Ford-150 is starting off with a positive reputation.

A gasser F250 costs about the same as a F150. So if you need the heavy frame, why not buy the SD. You get heavier brakes, rear end, tranny, ect.
but everybody is making their 1/2 ton trucks more capable, maybe its because their HDs suck major....

Have you EVER owned a 250? The brakes alone, are worth the cost of admission. They'll outstop a 150 3/1 with a heavy load. And keep doing it day, after day, after day.....

Plus, like I said before. Prolly 70% of F150 owners are truck posers anyways. Their trucks will prolly rarely, if ever, see any weight even close to the GVW.

I'd bet that if Ford built a 1/2 ton truck with a 6-8K towing capacity, that got 25+ MPG. Peeps would buy a ton of them.

Keep an eye out while driving. Take a mental poll of the trucks you see. How many peeps are in them? Is there anything in the back, in tow?

I was thinking for saftey reasons as far as the heavy frame goes. But you are right they do have an oversized frame. But I think the Bodies could loose a little weight to, or at least size, they are way to big, and so are the Super Duties. I would not want to drive such a massive truck, heck I thought my 94 super cab was hell to park, but I bet they fixed the lousy turning radius since the 92-96's. I actually have yet to see a newer Ford truck that didn't have a very small super cab look to it, which is fine by me it looks pretty handy to me. Back to the HP, my 94 had a 5.8 which was rated at like 210 HP and 320 TQ, would flat fly, and the only modification it had was a RV cam that came in the new motor. It was a heavy truck, and would pull a pretty big Bobcat with no problems, and that was on the reciver hitch. I don't think the trucks NEED more HP, but I would certainly like to see it happen, I think a DOHC 5.4 would do it, maybe even bore it out or stroke it, same goes for the 4.2 and 4.6. I have heard you can stroke the 4.6 to a 5.0, Ford should do that at the factory, and make the 5.4 at least a 5.6 liter, the 4.2 is okay since it's a 6 cylinder anyway, but I'd like to see it put out nembers like the Jap sixes 250+HP 270+TQ.

dwrestle our old 94 2wd short cab short bed, will turn a circle inside of my 97 4x4 excab regular bed, and our 2004 ext cab regular bed. I think turning radius didn't really change from the 97 gen to the 04 gen but the 94 had the best turning radius of them all.

the superduties are WAY Too much truck for 90% of the ppl out there, and the older halftons werent enough truck for people. my dad owned about 3 f-150s for company trucks in the mid 90s and when he was done and traded them off they were so wore out and shot cause they were built so light. now he has a SD and he thinks its almost too much truck eeven tho he still tows and loads it will a few thousand lbs daily it wouldnt supprise me if his next truck was an f150... u cant compare the old trucks with the new ones, heck look at last years tundra compared to this years...... no comparison

Go even older.... The older styles (I'm thinking 73-79 here) are more stout than they built today. The transfer cases were indistructable, and the body was bullit proof, you just couldn't beat them.
The new body style(04-now)is a much better version of the F150 since 1980 in my opinion, and all the rest were undersized, powered, ect....
