Ford-150 is starting off with a positive reputation.
hey don't say that i am uninformed or any of that crap, i don't need to go to the V10 forum to know what my friend (do you want me to list his name?) got in his F250, just to tell you it is worst than my 03 F150 with a 5.4 and i get like 13-14, but maybe he has something draining his mileage, or it could be that fact that it is lifted, but even my "buddy" had one in his excursion and it was pretty bad too

oh and make the 6.2L an option and keep the 5.4 because the 5.4 is a great engine and people will still buy it

I have a 2004 6.8L V-10 that gets 12-13 puttering around town and 14-15 on the highway.

Even the dealers told me that I didn't want the V-10 because of fuel mileage. A "buddy" of mine has a 2004 F-250 that is identical to mine except his has the 5.4L V-8. There is exactly 1 mpg difference between the trucks...until we hook up the car haulers.

The constant whining that "Ford needs this...." fill in the blank is getting old and ridiculous. Do you not realize the reason these other trucks are putting more and more power into their trucks is to convince people their truck is better than the Ford? First, Ford trucks are well built and inexpensive compared to most of the competition. I am sure you will all bash and beat me down, but if the Chevy was cheaper than the Ford, it would be the #1 selling truck. Ford has a good system, nice looking trucks, good ride quality, probably the nicest interior, and just enough power for the average truck buyer. That being said, they are not building trucks for power hungry gearheads like us. They are building them for the average guy who drives it back and forth to the office and Home Depot on the weekend. Guys who buy trucks to work hard and want a lot of power buy Super Duty PSD's. I have always hated it that Ford always seemed like they were in last place in horsepower wars. As much as that seemed stupid to me, they were always in first place in truck sales. If their trucks needed what most people on here said they needed, they wouldn't be selling half the trucks they are. Whether we like it or not, they know what they are doing. Let the verbal insults against me begin.

In 97 I bought a 96 silverado 4x4 5.3 to pull my boat.It was a good truck but got only 15-16 mpg, when gas started going out of sight in 04 I bought a new F150 5.4 (sticker said 14-18)The Ford doesnt pull the boat any better than the Chevy but it does burn more gas.The best I can get driving easy is 13-14 .plus I'm 35.000 dollars poorer..

So, a lifted V10 F250 gets worse mileage than a 5.4 F150?
Apples and oranges.

no i agree with you, i think that the 5.4 should stay maybe squeeze like 50 more horses out of it but keep it in the truck, very little people that own a truck use it to speed or race in, make the 6.2L an option so the people that want a bigger engine can have one, ford isn't stupid about selling their trucks, that's why they are the best at doing it, don't worry guys im pretty sure that in the new model you will see a nice increase in HP and TQ, yes in my opinion the 5.4 in the new models is kinda of slow but it sure as hell is a better engine than what any of the other guys have in their 1/2 pickup, that fact that everybdy is coming out with a new more powerful engine is good, because their prices go up and in reality if people do not need that much power then they won't buy something that costs more for it, they will go for the less expensive, less powerful engine, im pretty sure GM keep their 5.3 engine and made the 6.0 an option which is smart because out of all the new chevy's ive seen none that has the 6.0 but then again i have only seen 6 up close

ford needs to keep the 5.4 put a little more power on it and find a way to get more fuel efficient ratings out of it and their truck will be so hard to keep up with in sales

If you're only getting 13-14 mpg, something may be wrong as my '07 SCrew 5.4 3.73 6.5' bed 4x4 is getting 17 and it only has 1100 miles on it. Doesn't pull better than the 5.3 Chevy? Then something is really wrong!

You guys are forgetting that you have to have power to have fuel efficency. That is why I get 15 mph mixed highway city driving my 97 4.6 moderately and my dad gets 17 mixed city highway drivin his 04 5.4 hard as hell. A 6k pound truck with 210 hp like my 97 has to downshift and run alot harder to maintain speed/accelerate. His truck surely weighs more than mine but with the combination of a more powerful, more efficient motor it is capable of better mileage. But even with the more power the 5.4 in the 04 generation pickups is underpowered. Nobody can deny that. Its strong but still a lil underpowered. If it had more power and a 6 speed they could get another 5 mpg out of it. Just like the new chevs gets 20 sumthin mpg with more power than us. mpg come with hp.

Im confused a 96 silverado,I thought they only had a 305 or 350?5.0 or 5.7 L I agree It gets frustrating Ford always seems to be behind in the HP wars but then again it seems stupid to me to be heading twords 400hp for what alot of people use to get to and fro the office or "tow" the big four wheeler or 19 ft boat. Hard to believe my 88 150 had a 302 v8 with only a measly 185 hp did everything I asked it to do for 150k miles until I sold it.

Obviously there are people here who want more hp and more torque some people use it some people just want it. Some people want mpg and don't want more hp. Well they will forever offer smaller engines than the most powerful one. Don't get too upset about us power junkies wantin more power. Don't buy the 150 with 400hp. Go buy you a lil 4.2 or a ranger if you want good mileage and let me have my hot rod boat hauler.

I did not know that,I had alot of friends that loved the vortec 5.7. I know what you mean about the mileage my 250 gets 12-13 at best and a friend claims his 6.0 chev gets 17 both trucks are similarly equipped

I guess up to 95 had the old 350,96 and up had the 350 Vortex they had pretty good power and gave decent mileage..I swear it pulled my bassboat as good as my Ford.
