Yes the F-450 is speed limited to 81 MPH, but this is due to the tires. I am not sure what the top speed of the F-250 and F-350's are, but it is definately more than 81 MPH.

450 tires 225 70/ 19.5 have 110 pounds of air in them, Wow. My 350 DRW always dropped it from 80 to 50 not hauling or towing during the winter for a softer ride. The 450 tires surprisingly don't pound like my 350's did. Knowing Strut that top speed was probably was with his Cedar Creek in tow going uphill I-84 into Scranton to see what it could do! Blew a tire on our Kountry Star last summer in Me at about 72mph trying to get up speed to get up a hill. Found I had a faulty compressor gauge and had 90# in 80# tires. My other tire when I put on the spare started smoking, checked the pressure and it had built to 105# (spare had 65) Changed that tire when I got home. It was all warped out of shape and rubber melted and sprayed under the trailer. I don't think I'll go much above 65 towing again.

I have a 95 f 350.When i got the truck salesman told me top speed is only 75-80 back then speed limit was only 55 mph,so you don't need to go faster ya right, also it was listed as hd commercial govt rules, reg on hd trucks. Now 12 years latter maybe same laws??as 450 is listed as hd commercial.

Thanks for all the feed back Here is what I know I have a F350 2003 Lariat SD 4X4 CC Long box DRW with canopy or with a camper on it as in a 8 1/2 foot it hits about 93 mph. Speedo says 160 kmph. On the GPS it shows less. This is in stock settings the chip does not change my top end speed but does get me there quicker. I have 16" tires on it that I run at 75 psi. Air bags all four corners. So with that said maybe we need to swap tires on the F450 and put mine from the F350 on and see what it does at the drag strip.

Haakeyez I believe even if you change tires the computer will still only let you do 81-83. Strut - Up hill into Scranton 2 years ago my poor F350 V10 was on the floor in 3'rd gear ( 5speed stick) for about 30 minutes going 55mph screaming at 3700 rpms. Thats when The V10 changed me from a chevy person to a Ford Truck person for sure. Sure glad I had synthetic oil in it.

+/-2900 rpm at 80mph. Really bad mpg in that range. Need to keep the rpm's around 2000 for the best mpg unfortunately that is 60 mph or so. That is why I am going to go with 245 or 265 whatever will fit in the wheel wells. Should make it more like 4.30's or 4.10's have not figured out which one yet. It has plenty of power so I am not worried about the taller tires.

I have had mine screaming at 5000 rpms going 70-75 for hours on end out here. Those motors just plain run. Never cough or sputter, they just keep on screaming. I run synthetic too but still I love that motor.

Kimminau, the only problem with going taller tires you would need to stay with G rated tires on the 450. Not sure if that is possible. Dealers can not go below that because of certain laws. Tried going lower tires on my 350 to change from 3.73's to 4.10 and ran into that problem. You were sure brave running that V-10 at that rpm that long. That sends chills up my spine.

I am pretty sure G rated tires are available in 245 & 265 x 19.5. Not 100% but I sure think I saw them.

As far as the V-10 goes it really loves the high rpms. It worried me the first couple of times but it really does run good up there, both of them are running stronger as they get more miles on them. The 06 has 56,000 miles on it now and probably 20k of that are pulling on the highway at 5000 rpm.

I ran a 4.6 ??? V8 magnam pulling a 25 foot bumper pull 18 hours and my foot never left the floor for except to stop at the gas station every 2-2.5 hours...145-165 miles.

Mission trip from ohio to New Orleans....cleanup.

Most of these motors will run flat out out day long and just sing.

BTW in 2nd gear the truck would still do 68mph at 56-5700 rpms. We changed the oil before we headed home.

Sorry completely off topic.....talking to firehawk.
