cam and intake options

I have a 78 302 I was looking to put a new cam and intake on I need to know if an intake rated at 1500-6500 rpm would work good with a cam ratd for 1200-5500rpm?

I don't think it would be much of a problem. We could probably give a better answer if you could provide the brand and part numbers. If you do a lot of heavy towing, something that improves power from just off idle would be the ticket, where as, what you've mentioned, would be good power for a street driven daily driver.

Thank you! We try to advise users where they can find the most effective help. This is a general performance and engine building forum, not engine specific. If you have 302 specific questions then please do use the proper form for 302's. The 302 forum is quite active, not as active as some of the later model forums but then what do you expect? Always place your question in the most specific forum.

But it IS a performance and general engine building question is it not?Hmmmmm seems like your reasoning is doubtful.......if someone were to ask a question about their axles with a truck that has a 302 would you tell them to go to the 302 forum as well?Seems like if it's a question about a cam or intake or anything else performance related that the question should be posted in the performance and engine building forum, regardless of the specific engine.....

In this case a cam and intake recommendation or question for a 302 is very specific to 302 engine characteristics and would best be placed in the 302 engine forum where the experience/information is.

General questions about intake types and characteristics go in this forum. Topics such as piston coatings, lifter characteristics, one piece -vs- two piece valves, etc go here. Not all performance questions would go here as in; TBI -vs- Port injection would go in the fuel systems forum or which chip/tuner to use would go in the chips forum.

An axle question would go in the axle forum unless it is directly related to a specific year then it would go to the year/model forum. Engines are not related to axles so why would it go in the 302 forum?

Questions about a specific engine whether performance or building, leaks, cams, intakes, pistons, etc go in the specific engine forum.

In the end it does not matter, out of place posts just add clutter to be waded thru. The user will just find more and better information in the right forum. So those of us with years of experience here try to direct them there. Years of traffic and user feedback has resulted in a large number of specific forums on FTE. Forums have split and split again so that users with a 56 Ford did not have to wade thru pages of for example; superduty questions. It would be an extreme hassle to communicate and find information if everything was dumped into one big "General" forum.

I hope this answers your question.

well, thank you telling everyone even remotely paying attention the exact criteria for their posts to be in the PERFORMANCE AND ENGINE BUILDING forum....now we can just stress over the right questions to ask without being told to go to another forum...let the run-a-round begin.I see no difference in the questions regardless of the specific engine displacement...sure, certain engines act differently, and hell it varies whether it being the same cubes or not, but in general...don't most all smallblocks act the same and are built the same way????Now I'm confused........should I be posting this and all other particular messages pertaining to our "argument" ; for argument's sake; in the general non-automotive threads?Let's not get too into depth in this conversation......I could go at this for months....I've made my stand and now I'll post into whatever thread I feel......and no, you didn't answer my question. How many of those posts did u say you answered fully and contently of those 30,000?I mean, other than "try the such-n-such" forum."?????????I'll be listening......

HOT DAMN A FIGHT!!! i agree with flarside, it sounds like a performance question to me!,and to answer your question ford , yes it should work fine!, i take it those parts are readily available to you? but in case you did not know this, most aftermarket shops (like edelbrock)will tell you what works best together (just have to ask)+ they sell packages of carb, mani, cam+lifters + even heads called power packages, good luck to ya. BTW- I rarely subscribe to threads with any useful information, if you need anymore useless info or non-help use PM with a link somewhere else

We try to help but some people are just incapable of understanding. Sorry you nubes have difficulties understanding the structure of the forums, but I guess brilliance does not shine on your side of the fence.

There will not be a fight. This thread will be locked/deleted (and others like it) if this turns in to a mud slingin' contest.
