My ac has started shutting off intermittently. I feel it surge at highway speeds and the output air starts getting warmer. I can turn the ac OFF, wait a few minutes, cut it ON and cold air returns. The clutch is not engaged when it quits. Also, using an off the shelf guage the freon pressure is at "alert".
Do I have a pressure switch problem? Is the switch replaceable without losing freon and needing recharged? Any help is appreciated.
You'd get more answers in the 1997 - 2003 F150 forum Baileybones however it sounds like it might be low on freon. Also if memory serves me correctly you have to depressurize the system to replace the pressure switch.
I had an ElCamino doing that and it was the engine fan clutch.......slipping and causing the hightemp/pressure switch to cut in and out.
Wiz is right....low freon will do it too
Good Luck
