Try this....it's how I did it. Take the tail light out, and use a splice into the reverse light wire to run back up to the cab to trigger the switch part of the relay. Then, run another wire back to the lights that run them from the relay. Run both wires at the same time to save time. The loose ends of the upfitter wires are behind the fuse box. They are blunt cut with black parts over the ends to keep them from shorting out when not in use. Use a 10mm wrench to get the 4 screws out of the fuse box. The wires are mostly orange with different color stripes. 2 are larger as they run more amps than the other 2.

Bulldog...There should be power back there...you sure you pulled the right wire? I pulled the reverse wire from inside the frame on the drivers side (black/green) and ran it into the cab because that is where I had my relay.

I appreciate all the complements guys.

For those of you doing this there is a 12V reverse wire already inside that cab if that would help you out I can go look at my truck and see what it was. I tapped into it to provide power for my rearview camera, and then wired in a diode and upfitter 4 just like Bear is doing so my camera comes on any time I shift into reverse, or if I turn on switch 4.

hey beerstalker I've been waitin for someone to post about a wire in the cab to tap for reverse power. would you mind posting which one it is, it will really simplify this install! Is there any suitable power (always on) in the area of the upfitter switches to power the relay or would it be better to run a seperate wire (fused) from the battery. thanks in advance!!!

There is a wire in the fuse panel beneath the steering column that is 12V+ when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. It is on the lower passenger side of the fuse panel, it is a black wire with pink tracer. Here is a picture of it from where I tapped into it in my truck.

My truck is an 07, I would think it would be the same on the 05-07, possibly the earlier trucks too.

Install completed. Pretty simple really with all the help on this forum. All of the connections were made in the cab except for three. fused power on red pass-thru wire from driver side battery to power on the relay ,white pass-thru out of cab to lights plus one connector to extend wiring harness length. there were three easily accessible ground points behind the fuse panel for grounding the switch. The 12v reverse wire was easily found(black with pink stripe) it is located inthe second module in from the lower passenger side corner of the fuse box (it has four wires taped together)with the blk/pnk hidden behind the other three wires) I pre assembled a spade conn with 6in wire then butt conn then diode then butt connector and connected this to upfitter no1 and tapped wire from blk/pnk reverse wire. works great. thanks for the help.

Just to stir the pot...this mod can be wired with ONE wire. Fergetabout even using one of the precious four Upfitter switches! Run a fused 14 gauge from the battery all the way to the tail. Wire a relay using the 14ga to #30, ground #85, #86 to the factory backup light (already there & wired- just tap it) and the aftermarket lights to #87. They will come on whenever you put it in reverse, no muss/no fuss.

Is that your daily driver or just a toy?

Looks Amazing but impractical and a little dangerous for a daily driver.

I'd also be scared sh*&less to take that beauty Off Roading.
