over reving

I was out driving tonight and I got on the gas pretty hard, when I let up on the throttle to shift the pedel got stuck in the rubber flooring causing the engine to rev at about 5,000 to 6,000 RPM for probably what seemed like 5 to 10 sec. I am hoping that everything is okay it's an 86 Ranger with the 2.9L with about 94,000 miles. Should I be worried that I could have caused some damage to the engine. It still sounds okay but just wanted to know if something could happen being way over reved.

it should be. if you get a vibration or milky looking oil you know you have a problem. i see 4.0 go that high all the time over and over again and still run like a top.
