Yes it's very easy to take apart....there are 2 bolts that hold the two factory installed recepticals in place to the trailer hitch (at least on mine it's this way), they are 10mm.

Take them out and lower the whole assembly down where you can see it. There is one single plug, about 1 1/2" in diameter. This plug has one of those plactic lock tabs, spring it up and pull it apart.......

The part that is attached to the metal bracket is the one that held the water, about 1 teaspoon worth.

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures, but really this is easy to disassemble. Go figure....I was ready to start stripping wires etc.....yadda yadda.

OK thanks, it looks like on the 08's that there are two doors at the back of the plug, one for the big rv trailer type connection and another for the 4 pin type
Is that the way yours is??

Yes.......and there is only one single plug in the rear of that assembly that feeds both recepticals

When i pulled my fifth wheel camper I had no faults. When I hooked up to the car hauler I got the "Trailer Fault". Went out after trailer disconnected. I am figuring something not completeing the circuit through the car hauler. But It did go out.

Yippee!!! Hooray!! Thanks Gulf Coast Ford in Angleton, Tx. They vowed to keep the truck until they fixed it. Yes, the factory plug had water in it. This is the cause of all my problems, they say. It is fixed. They swear that when they replaced the plug, they reinstalled the new one where this will never happen again.

Rolling down the road on 6 wheels again feels so sweet!!!

Sounds like the problem is water/moisture in the plug, you would think Ford would figure this out by now and have a waterproofing fix by now...
They should be on this site and get thier information....

Sounds to me like FoMoCo owes me check for discovering the source of their problem!

I'd bet if a person was to measure the Dia's of both the male and female plug ends, there would be enough room for a rubber o-ring and proper fix. Simply relocating the plug will NOT help, it needs to be sealed from retaining water!

It WASN'T in the doors (recepticals), but rather on the back side, the PLUG that provides the juice.

If i am looking for water intrusion i am going to check all connections and sides of the connector, not just one.

Checking everything is a noble approach, however it appears that before you begin stripping wires and driving ones self nutz....Check the 2 proven solutions listed in this thread to the Wire Fault code first, then continue.

It's usually a case of KISS.........Keep it Simple - Stupid!

Why do i have to strip wires to look for moisture in the plug?
Basic trouble shooting procedures from the start does keep it simple! And you locate the problem quickly, which results in a quick repair and you are back on the road.

FYI keep the personal attacks to yourself!
