airbag light

I have a 1997 F150 super cab pick up. The airbag has started to flash 5 flashes pause then 2 flashes when truck is started. It repeats pattern a few times then goes solid and stays that way. I have checked the fuses and somewhere around here I read to check that the horn and cruise works, which they both do. Can anyone please help point me in the right direction to solve this problem? Thanks!:-(

Do a search on "clockspring". Read the posts. It should point you in the right direction.

I actually just had that same problem on my 2000 Superduty. I had the truck in for service, and when i pick up the truck, the airbag light would flash the same patterns that you described and then turned solid. So I took the truck for the weekend and in the process i noticed that the cruise and horn did NOT work. When i took the truck back in monday morning, the tech went right to the clockspring, which had broke.
But it sounds like in your case the the cruise and horn still work, so I am hesitant to say that yours is the clockspring. You said you checked the fuses? Has any recent maintenece been performed (i.e. front end work)??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Nov-02 AT 05:37 PM (EST)]I have not had any work done - but the battery almost went dead over the weekend. Left the dome light on for a few days. Truck started without having to be jumped, but it took a minute. I have read a lot about the spring, but I also read where somebody had the code reset and that took care of it. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Horn and cruise work perfect! Thanks for the help.

MMMM, I have not heard of a code that would reset the airbag light. Have you tried calling a Ford Dealer and asking if they could ask around and see if any of the techs have any ideas... I had a problem on a Ch**y of mine a while back and i call them up and they offered some suggestions and solutions. You can always try right?!!

Good luck!

The code 52 indicates a low or interupted power supply. Have the system reset.

Any suggestions on resetting the system? I pulled the battery cable and left it off for a good 5 minutes. Any ideal. P.S. Thanks to everyone for their help! What a great web site!

Well thanks for everyone's help. I spent more time typing questions on this web site than it actually took to solve my problem. Went to my repair place and he put his scanner on it and reset the code. Problem fixed. Something strange occured when I let the battery run down, that tripped the code. I did call my dealer and they wanted $80.00 to do what my auto place did. Thanks again........
