Question What size is it?

Hi, I'm new to the club, I have a 55 reg cab short bed f-100 I inherited from my father. I'm in the process of restoration and never new the size of the engine. I can tell you it's a 8 cylinder thunderbird motor but logos on the valve covers are so worn it's barely readable. Is there somewhere on the block I can get numbers from? Also the original ford carburator is shot I've been told and I was thinking about getting a holly can anyone reccommend what model would go with this motor? Thanks for your input.

Welcome, nice to meet another member with a sweet 55 shortbox.
Being in California it must be nice and fairly rust free.
It is hard to say what`s in there for a motor now, orginally it was a 272 if a V8. It could be a 292/312 if the T-Bird valve covers are the correct ones for the motor.
Try to get some numbers off the block and we will be able to help you out.

Look under the passenger side cylinder head on the upper block area for the numbers and post it on here and we will be glad to de-cipher them for you. And welcome!

I assume the distributor is at the back correct? That at least limits it to a Y block

Original 55 F100 V8's were 239 ci. Here is a link that will help identify a Y-Block.
