oh man, another one of these threads speculating as to what ford is going to do.
let's just see what happens with the 6.4 this year and the next few my's and then when more info comes out, we'll know what ford will be doing with their new diesel.
i just wish they would consider the inline 6 design. not an inline 8 or V8. inline 8 would be really long d you want to have the turbo where your cup holders are? lmao
they need to make something comparable to the cummins, big bore inline 6. then you can compare apples to apples in the dodge vs ford debate.
V8 just says GASSER to me. and today, they are getting farther and farther away from a true diesel motor and just making them gas motors running on diesel fuel. way too HIGH of RPMS for a diesel. look at the redline of a 7.3 turbo and see what the 6.0 and 6.4 is turning now.
I don't know what the redline of the 6.4 is, but its no secret that increacing the revs is a cheap way to get higher peak Hp. personally I would also like an inline six thats eiser to work on, even if it does cost a few ponies. Heck, I'm still ticked off by fords canceling of the good ol 4.9 l6, now that was a nice motor. But in general it is easier (these days cheaper too) to get a high peak numbers out of a V8 than an L6, and lets face it, peak numbers are what sells.

Hmm I guess if Ken made this its own section then it must be true...
That seems to be the best confirmation I've seen. He also started a 4.4L diesel section.
With the current cost of diesel now we have to see if the race will be for ponies or fuel economy on these new motors. Too bad those 2010 emissions laws are coming.

SWEET! I can get out of my Dmax and return to the blue oval!! I can't wait to get more info about this engine! I sure do wish they would dump the V-8 though and go inline 6!!
[quote=Miller;4574350]id like to see an inline eight 7.3 with common rail, twin turbos, customer programmable fule, and shift points, im thinking.......dummy exhaust for smog testing..... forget this DPF stuff... otional 8 speed manual with split rearend...

I hope FORD will realize that mpg's are more important than a 350+ hp PSD engine. The current 6.4L PSD has plenty...so if they can keep it the same or even lower it just a little to squeeze more mpg's...that should be the way to go...IMO.
The dual-turbo has been a success in the 6.4L PSD...so maybe they bring that along too.
Heck...leave the hp/torque monster engine numbers for the aftermarket...
true. I have owned my PSD 7.3l for 5 years now and love the mpg an power but need a new truck soon ! 6.4L seem alright from the reviews but a 6.7 L ford inhouse with hopes of better fuel mileage would be awsome. It will be sad to see international go, but ford knows if they do an inhouse diesel they have ALOT to prove and MAYBE they wont mess it up !
In my opinion if Ford built an engine with close to or even moderately less power than the 6.4, but increased fuel mileage (significantly) and marketed the increased fuel mileage, Dodge and Chevy would have to give their trucks away.
I use my trucks to haul crap (and heavy crap at that) every week. I don't need 5000 hp and 5000lb/ft to get around. With that said and the diesel fuel monopoly in full swing it would be so easy for Ford to own the market with a moderately performing highly efficient engine. And don't tell me it can't be done, either!
And this is where I took my screen name from. The reliable old 401 inline 6 built by Ford for the ag and industrial lines before they got branched off the main Ford logo. Built for the 8000 tractor originally in '68, it continued through '93, then was used in specialty models only. It was replaced in production by a Fiat built 7.5L 456 cid inline that had gobs more torque, but was essentially the 401 block with a longer stroke (4.600" vs. 4.400").
