'04 F250SD Navigation Install Wire Locations
I'm installing an aftermarket cd/dvd player and navigation and since I couldn't really find any definative posts on wire locations I decided to take some pics of where the wires are. This is for my 2004 F250 SD Crew Cab 6.0L Diesel. Your truck's wiring may vary.
VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor):
Location: Bhind passenger side kick panel.
Wire: Gray/Black stripe.
Picture:
Reverse:
Location: Behind fuse box under steering wheel.
Wire: Black/Pink Stripe
Picture:
Constant Power:
Location: Head Unit wiring harness.
Wire: Green/Gray Stripe
ACC Power:
Location: Head Unit wiring harness.
Wire: Pink
Illumination Power:
Location: Head Unit wiring harness.
Wire: Light Blue/Red Stripe
Picture: (I've colored the arrows according to what most aftermarket wire colors should be.)
I direct grounded the parking brake wire as I don't want to put the p-brake on when i'm sitting at a dead stop in traffic just to use extra menu functions or if my co-pilot is my navigator. But if someone here want's to let me know which wire it is, I can take a pic of it and add it to this post for future installers' reference.

For those of you working on an 05-07 the vehicle speed sensor wire is available at the head unit wiring harness, but I don't remember what color it is.
Also, the Scosche wiring adapter (FD23B or FD23) comes with the extra wires for VSS and Steering wheel controls, along with a couple others that I didn't figure out what they were, so you don't have to cut into the factory wiring. The Metra and Bestkits adapters do not have these wires.

SPL Tech, I don't think the vehicle speed sensor wire is available in his radio harness (99-04) so he has to tap into it elsewhere. Same with the reverse lights and parking brake wire they aren't available in any of the radio harnesses as far as I know.
Riggz, I will warn you about using t-taps. They tend to cut the wires as well as the insulation so over time you may end up with poor connections. It is always best to strip the wire and solder the joint, then use tape or shrinktube to cover it up. If it's too hard to get to with a soldering iron, crimp on butt connectors are almost as good.

Time to resurrect an old thread. I'm in the process of installing the AVIC-D3 in my 2001 F250 V10 and was wondering about the VSS wire location. I've searched AVIC411 and this forum and I've found different locations. My question is, can the gray/black stripe wire be found in different locations? I found this wire in the main wiring harness under the steering column but folks are also saying it's located behind the passenger kick panel. Where should I tap into at?
