How expensive are just the bolts?

I have a 99 that I paid about $1200 to do the job.

I have a 2002 that needs new bolts. I dont want to pay the $1200 again.

They are actually studs. You don't have to use studs, you can use a grade 8 or grade 10.9 (metric) and just use bolts. The thread size for studs/bolts is M8x1.25.That $1200 is mostly labor and sounds like a stealership price. My dad got all 20 studs replaced with new studs at a local small garage for under $500.

I had mine done in december for 745.00 at a local garage the dealership wanted 1400.00 to start with. 6 were broken and all but 2 broke when they tried to take them out

As soon as it warms up a bit more I need to pull my manifolds and put on my e-bay headers. I hope my studs aren't broken off flush to the head.

Ebay Headers

I have a 99 V-10 (Auto, ExCab, SWB, 4x4 w/33x15.5 ATX's) w/ the ebay Y conversion but, because most of my studs are rusted/broke I really can't hear any flutter. I'm in the process of removing the studs. I was wandering if I could use the $200 Ebay headers, the only problem is mine has the EGR bung in the factory set. Could I change the ECM w/ a truck that didn't come w/ one & an EGR blockoff plate.

this thread has been on for sooooo long. thats awsome.

i have a huge... i guess like a hole in my ebay headers. i got pissed at my old exhaust b/c the flowmaster y broke on the welds and was leaking so i put my foot in the 5 inch tip and jumped. i got the y-pipe to almost fully break but all the torque from my fat ass broke my passenger ebay header. trust me i feel bad enough that i did that.

i was wondering if its bad for my heads if ther is like a 2" slit in the headers where they collect. i havent been able to weld it because its so close to the block i cant acces it.

Well...it isn't good.

But really...it isn't a good idea to have those leaks because cooler outside air can enter and damage the valves...if left un-fixed.

Well, today I finally got some time to tackle the job of removing the cast manifolds. Had two broken studs on the pass. side. Two more broke off flush with the top of the manifold. So I have two to drill and 5 or 6 that I have to turn out yet. On the drivers side I have 3 that I have to drill out and 3 left to screw out. The studs that I broke had to have been cracked. It did'nt take much and they broke off. That was after heating the nuts cherry red.
Tomorrow I will work on getting the long studs out, then it will be onto the the 5 short ones.

Plan is to get the headers on they head to the muffler shop for a new cat. and a performance muff.
Hope to get it done in the next week and a half?

I didn't know muffs came in a performance model... maybe it's time to trade in the wife for a new muff?

More on a serious note.

I took the manifold off, What a pain the two middle bottom bolts are on the passanger side.

I had to get a dremel, with a flexible shaft. a few other tools. About $200 just for tools.

I soaked the studs with PB blaster a few times yesterday and will go back today to see if I can get them out. 7 of them ten are above the block. three are maybe 1/4 inch below the surface. I picked up some nuts to help remove them. Put on two nuts and try to back it out with a ratcheting wrench. If you google getting stuck bolts out, They have a few good ideas. I dont have a welder or a torch so I am left with only a few things.

Why do you have to have 25 posts in order to post pictures? There are a few pictures that I wanted to post already.

So that spammers can't post pictures - and other fly-by-night visitors

Email me through FTE and I'll reply - then email your pictures to me, I can put them up for you.

Well I spent some time on removing the longer studs tonight. (6) I had to weld nuts on them all. I thought the last one was going to twist off, but it finally came. Now I thinking about making a jig so I drill the holes straight in the 5 that are broke off below the surface of the heads. You would think Ford would have figured out that this might be a problem area with such small studs? Some of the New Holland tractors we work on use almost the same size studs. Guess what they like to do also!
Sure hope the rest drill out decent.
