Autometer trans temp gauge sender?

I have a set of used autometer phantom gauges and i need the sending unit for the transmission temp gauge. I want to put the sender in the high pressure port on the side of the transmission. My question is which sender to buy... there is a 2258 which comes with the gauge, and an optional 2259 which is for cylinder head temp (doesnt have any probe that portrudes from threads). I would like to get the 2258, but wanted to make sure that it will work in the high pressure port? What are you guys using?

I have and I can't swear to it but 2258 sounds right. I installed mine in the line coming out of the tranny heading to the cooler, figured it was going to be the hottest point as it is last out of the tranny before going to be cooled. My friend that builds trannies said it would show a little more fluctuation but would give me quicker notice that heat was rising. I am very pleased with how it has worked out.

i dont know the number but when i installed mine, i threaded the sender into the port on the drivers side right above the lip of the pan in the middle of the tranny. most likely the one that comes with the gauge will work. i have a couple pics here

96P_Stroke4x4, thanks for the pictures. Could you tell me if the sender you put in your transmission looked like this one:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

or this one:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

The second link does not have a probe that portrudes from the threaded section, the first one does. The autometer guy said to use the second one, but i dont think that will thread into the transmission. It seems to me that i should be able to use the 2258 (first link) with no problems, but wanted to check before i order. Thanks

Stroke4x4, does your boost gauge rattle at all? I have the exact same setup for boost gauge and mine rattles bad.

2258 and 2259 are the same threads, even if it wasn't same as tranny you could use adapter. The pics in the link for 2258 are showing it already installed in the 1/2 adapter. They are probably the same unit just one includes the adapters.

jnye6625, both links show the same sender, the second doesn't have the adapters. you should be fine getting the first one. i installed it four years ago and i'm pretty sure i didnt use any adapters. when you pull the plug in the tranny, only a little tranny fluid will drop out, nothing to be worried about, so if it doesn't fit, you can put the plug back in.
my boost gauge doesn't rattle. it's pretty smooth until it gets above 20psi. 20 to 35psi the needle bounces a little. i'll have to take some video sometime of the gauge. i'll try this weekend if i remember.
