I have a 2006 F150 4x4, 13000 miles. Intermittent grinding that sounds likes brakes but feels like trans comes from front end. Starts around 30mph usually and stops in a minute. Getting more frequent and brake check found nothing.
Don't want to go through the whole "no problem found" game with the dealer
but I can't make the noise happen. Any ideas on what this noise could be?

When the you hear the noise, pop it in 4x4, if it goes away, It's your IWE solenoid behind the battery. Have them replace it under warranty. Get this fixed soon if this is the problem, otherwise your IWE(Integrated wheel ends) will suffer damage.
