351W MPI - flashing pcm

Can anyone tell me what year/model/part# is best if we wanted to flash the ford mpi computer on a 351W?

My brother says he doesnt know about Ford, but with chevy you need specific part # on the pcm.

I've never heard of "flashing" (erasing and reprogramming) an EEC-4 ECU, but you can get a chip with a custom program if that's what you're after.

I used a Superchip 1715 programmer on my 96 F150 with a 5.8. It helped the power & increased my highway mileage 1.5mpg. It helped the trans shift better too.It will not work on a older model but like posted above Superchip & other brands make chips that will work. Your computer code should be in the door sill on a sticker that says calibration code

I have, there are several free flash tools available, but you must have the ECM calibration and hopefully find a bin for it. Try http://www.tweecer.com/ or http://www.moates.net/

EEC-IV computers cannot be flashed. To make changes you have to use a chip on the service port.

??

Tweecer and others are designed just for that, the a9l being the most popular to tune. Even if the prom is not erasable, there should be a replacement prom that is reprogrammable.

My brother tells me he knows someone who can flash them and put in whatever specs we tell him.

My brother is just unsure if you have to have a specific part #, EEC, etc. He is going to ask this other person, but we were looking to see what we could find out here, too.

EEV-IV CANNOT BE REFLASHED. You must use a piggyback device that changes code via the service port. That's the way the tweecer and such work for EEC-IV.
