Front End Traction Lok

Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 F150 4x4 Lariat 5.4litre 3:55 gears automatic with Traction Lok rear end. A couple of friends have told me that I have Traction Lok or limited slip/whatever in the front end also. I'm not sure if I believe them. How can I find out? Can you tell by just looking at the pumpkin/differential? Man it sure gets around a lot better than any other outfit I have ever had. While hunting, other outfits with chains on all four tires were following me. I ain't kiddin! Can anyone help?

This is new to me so I am making a guess here.

No, your front diff would not look any different. But you could turn on dry pavement with out the front end lurching through the corner.

A traction loc in both axles would be very sweet indeed.

One thing you could do that would tell you for sure, put it in 4Hi on the dirt and step on it then get out and see if both front tires dug in.

You got my mind going. when I brought home my 2000 F150 there was alot of snow so I pulled it up in the lot next to the house and asked my girlfriend to watch as I punched it and she says both tires in front spun....

I always wondered that, too.
My 03 has the 3.73:1 with limited slip
(I didn't order it, it was just on the lot like that.)

It has the larger rear case (like on 250's) and staggered Rancho shocks...but is not an FX4.

My dealer told me that this doesn't make the rear a "Posi" (a GM term)
...but the differential simply applies torque to the opposite clutches that are "slipping"..i.e. spinning in snow, etc.
causing more tractive force applied therein.

I didn't ask, but it would seem that this $300.00 would cover both axles.
