Axle refuses to slide through spindle

Axle refuses to slide through spindle
My axle and spindle refuse to seperate. I smoked the wheel bearings and the races siezed to the spindle. I bought a new spindle. My old spindle will not slide from the axle. What the heck is holding it up? I have the axle and spindle on the bench. I tried beating on the spindle it just REFUSES to remove from the axle!
