FLEX O MATIC lowering

hey could i remove that flex o matic piece on the springs and install lowering shackle to drop it.

I believe you would also have to replace the springs. Flexomatic springs are longer than the 'standard' spring with one piece shackle.

My truck has the Flex-O-Matic suspension too. What was ever the idea behind that. What were the benfits?

Its basically an overload device that will stiffen the spring by shortening the active length once its loaded to a certain point.

Anyone got a picture of the "FlexO" and non?


Edit: Never mind I found some pictures of both.
What's the difference in the ride?

No difference in ride, that is why they designed it.
It is almost up against the bottom of the bed so nothings
gained in the rear. If you invert the front hanger this will allow
for 4 1/2" higher pin location, divide by 1/2 that's your drop.
Trouble is your pinion angle will be altered and adding a wedge
will raise the back end slightly again.
