Soft Brakes

I recently changed the front brake pads on my '84 XLT. Now, I have a lot more travel in the brake pedal before the brakes activate. What could be causing this. I have plenty of brake fluid in my master cylinder.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you bleed both caliphers after putting in the new pads? Also how did you put the pads back in did you just push the piston back in and slap the pads on? If you did this you might have a leak at the caliphers. If you did bleed the front brakes try bleeding all four starting from the farthest away from the master cylinder and moving to the closest. Most front disc rear drum vehicles get their peddle from the rear brakes try adjusting the rear drums out till they just make contact with the drums judge this by lifting rear wheels off ground and putting truck in neutral and spin the wheels till you feel a little resistance. Hope this helps some and Good Luck,

Just adjust the rear shoes so that you have a "Very" slight drag on the rear tire and all will be right with the world again.
