Oil Reccomendations

Ok so here it goes i know this might be the wrong forum for this question but oh well this has something to do with 87-96 F150s and up so i just bought my 93 in November with 176k and now i have about 179 hitting 180 and about 182 is time for the oil change lol

So the guy i bought it from had the stock motorcraft filter and oil in it from the dealer looks like he always went there for changesi i didnt want to go to the dealer cause i assumed it would be pricey but didnt know yet i just wanted to change it fast and needed it done i found a deal and put some pennzoil in it this time i plan to change it myself since its gettin warmer out

So what do you all reccomend do you guys think the stock motorcraft oil/filter runs best on these trucks with my motor i didnt notice a major difference or does it make a difference on the brand of oil you put in i was thinking i might go synthetic too any brands everyone prefers do they run better on synthetic or again dont matter i dont know if i should go motorcraft or just any other brand whether its synthetic or not

I understand its opinion based and its my decision but i just want everyones 0.2 Thanks

i've heard fram can cause oil pressure problems, so motorcraft should be fine. I run castol gtx 10w-30, in my f 150. I'm going to swapp all fluids over to royal purple in the wifes expy though.

I use Shell Rotella-T CI-4 Plus oil with GM EOS...

I heard and read that the new oil (SM I think) is not suitable for flat tappet cams (not sure if you have flat tappet). There have been many recent cam failures in older rigs and it was determined that the oil was the cause. Mine has a flat tappet cam and thus choose my oil accordingly. My set up has a good amount of detergents and ZDDP and has done me well.

Motorcraft filters are really good. I use valvoline filters and they are good. Synthetic is the way to go, and there again I like valvoline. Mobile 1 is good, same with Royal purple, but they get a bit more expensive.

i run a fram tough gaurd filter (the regular one dropped my pressure the tough gaurd boosted it (go figure)) and i use quaker state high milage 5W-30 but i use it on all my trucks mostly because when the oil starts breaking down at 2500 miles it does a real damn good job cleaning the motor

Avoid Pennsylvania crude based oils like the plague- High Paraffin= sludge.

And while I like Fram Filters in general, I won't use their oil filters on my truck- all it takes is a visual inspection of the top of the filter to see why.

Puralator PureOne filters were supposedly rated number 1 in SAE tests for being the best at keeping crap out of the motor. I've used them ever since I read about those tests and they seem to work fine. Cost about $6 at Advance.
I always used Havoline 10W-40 down here in the hot south in lower mileage motors.... but I think I'm going to change to a "high mileage" oil for this one.....I'm not sure I believe all the hype....but I'll feel like I'm doing the right thing anyway.
Good Luck

Wal-Mart carries Motorcraft oil filters and synthetic blend oil , what I use in my truck, hard to say how good it last because I change it every 3000 miles ,oil is just turning black after 3000 miles.
