I saw that at least nukeford is from elkhorn. First of all i live out by lincoln so i dont care to much but i do a LOT of work in Elkhorn. Seems most people are pretty unhappy about the omaha take over. Personaly as an outsider i think omaha did the correct thing by not getting froze. Dont worry next will be Bennington. One job i was out i was on the phone with my office and refered to her house being in omaha and i thought she was gona kick me out she was so upset with me. Just seeing what everyones thoughts were about this are. From what i heard your sales tax is goin up a little but you should be saving a lot of money on property taxes while losing your local services (plowing and that kind of stuff).
My thoughts? If its on that side of the river, its Omaha. I think if you live west of GI, anything east of York to you might as well be Omaha.
But seriously, One city says I want your city, so I think I'll vote on it. Oh hey look, I win. Yeah. That might rub someone the wrong way.
I've got mixed feelings on it... Omaha is the first place I've ever lived in Nebraska. My general impression of the city politicians is they are greedy and money-grabbing. Omaha has got some serious crime issues in some parts of town and I think they should have focused their efforts on cleaning those areas up. The taxes here are unbelievable. Then you hear the mayor and others threaten to raise them even higher to make up for the looming deficit at the Qwest Center.
But, I am a transplant and it seems most of the natives I live around and have worked with don't seem to mind. Anyway, I don't mean to offend, but I was used to Colorado where we passed the tax limitation law that forced state and local govt's to live within their means.
Well fellas, being an Elkhorn resident (Or Elkaha, or Omahorn) I'm not too upset. I am originally from Omaha, so it doesn't bother me all that much. Yeah, we should see our property taxes drop a little. I know the services will suffer. My wife and I both drive 4x4's, so the plowing thing is that big of an issue. I'm a little concerned on how much of a police presence we'll have out here, Elkhorn police were always patrolling the neighborhood, and I think we'll miss that the most. I wish it would have stayed Elkhorn, mainly just to keep the independent feel of the town, but I think I'll live. There are a lot of people that are pissed about this though, and probably will be for a while!
