like the 390 very nastalgic, but can't ever seem to keep them from leakin at head intake... and my last post wasn't a misprint it is a 406 not a 460 its a bored 351m/400 being of course the 400...and i tend to overbuild everything, call it compinsating, if you like...

For some reason my truck isn't liking to 2-3 or 3-2 shifts right now (next thing on the agenda to figure out). So i took off from a light hard in first, hit second, and then went to just slide it in third at about 30. Well, it doesn't want to go in.

Anyway, i'm kinda slowing down and lightly revving the motor trying to get it to pop into third so the guy next to me thinks i want to race. Right as it clicks into third gear I'm only running about 20mph and the guy in the other lane looks over at me and revs his truck up (it was a 91-96 Ford PSD).

So as it sits I can't downshift, i'm doing 20 and i'm in third gear. It wasn't looking pretty, but i decided to run it anyway since if i lost i'm driving a rusted out 6 color 85 F-150. If i win, i'm driving a rusted out 6 color F-150 with a 390

So i just mashed it and went. the truck started going and then i heard him mash it, turbo spooled, and then the truck downshifted. He ran right up on me in a hurry, but right as he caught me i was doing about 40 which is where my power band starts in third gear. From there I just walked away until i lifted at 60 (we were in a 55). It was a short race, but the truck really shone.

Justin

Awesome!! Great work, Sorry for your loss of the truck. It was just too much for the thief to handle!
I know this thread is 3 years old, but I ound it in a google search.
This is really going to help me this winter, as I plan to mount my 65 f350 body onto my 95 f150 short wheelbase frame with my 352 FE.

thats pretty cool, im a big fan of FE v8s myself...I dont think id ever put one in an 80s truck, id probably build a windsor...but as far as building one in a 67-76 ford, hell yes...I had a big block in my 78 and a 390 in my 72 highboy...I love that little 390. I never liked these engines before as i thought the head design was just stupid...but after running them, I have learned!!!!
