Was just wondering about this recently, I paid $4000 for my `95, although it does have 4x4 and a lot of chrome, I'm thinking I overpaid just a little bit... Don't get me wrong I love the truck, but thats still a hell of a lot of money, for someone who is 17 at least...

Did anyone else spend way too much money on their truck and not realise it until they started buying gas? lmao

 

I cant complain, paid 6500 for my 96 two years ago. I bought my 82 for 300 bucks when i was 16, and bought the 86 for 350 last year.

Gas, insurance, and parts for a month still cost less then the payment for a new one. I like to think I'm money ahead in the long run.

 

Not really considering I was given my 73....and my 04 a gift from my mom haha. Thats not to say I havent owned others...and yes I have been in a similar situation where I think I overpaid.

I paid $13,000 for mine, and am very happy with my price. I got it from some good friends who had a guy offer them $15,000 for it but they still let me have it for $13,000. Of course he wanted to put the stock tires and wheels back on it, so i wouldn't have sold it to him either!

I'm a little disappointed with my '87. I got it for free, but after we rebuilt the motor, it only lasted 300 miles then broke a piston rod (No one has given me a good explanation yet). Had to get a whole new long block because when it broke it gauged the side of the cyclender. I've also had a few too many parts go out for my likings, fuel pumps, distrubitor, and steering column. But, I shouldn't have been so naive about those things when I took it after it had been sitting for about 4 or 5 years.

 

at 16, the 83 f100 was free becuz the city told my uncle move it or lose it.. so we claimed $100 for tax purposes and it wasn't worth much more seein as how it died completely in abt 6 months.

at 17, paid $300 for the 85 f150, drove it for three years, put new freeze plugs in *shop job*, busted the head from overheating when they popped so a new head about 9 months later *shop job*, timing gears, motor mounts, oil pump and water pump *just cost of parts* then wrecked it right after i got all those parts on.. she's been sitting for 5 but she's legal for inspection now even if she is ugly with the tan nose off the 83 and the blue/rust/primer body... *all that cost was a can of marvel magic oil, antifreeze, oil, gas, and SWEAT AND BLOOD!* now i've got a backup for my baby when she needs a break...

at 21, paid $1750 for the 79, turned around and dropped another $900 on the tranny rebuild when it went out within about oh... 6 months... little nicknacks along the way of course but a new radiator and water pump was the nxt most expensive thing i've done to her and that was less than $400. i've had her for 5 years and she's still running better than I thought she wld be so i think i've definitely gotten my moneys worth out of her and will keep doing it till the day i can't keep up with the repairs anymore.

I paid $20,000 for mine ($1500 over KBB). I paid the asking price, but got a 3 year/36K mile warranty and a few extras that I wanted. So far the warranty has paid for all new brakes, shocks on all four corners, a new manifold with new studs, and installation. Not bad! I love my truck and it is mint, so I can't complain at all!

 

500 for that. im not regretfull about anything.

 

well unless you own seven in total then it can get a bit pricey.


I've paid anywhere from $250 for a one owner '84 Bronco to $5200 for my '93 F-150, any time I don't think I over paid as it has opened the door to getting my bike ('98 Triumph Daytona).

 

My first truck, a 1987 F150. . .paid $1800 for. Had a new motor, but need a lot of work. I thought I did ok until a few months later I had to drop a $1100 for a tranny, which I found I over paid on. Truck never ran 100%, but the experience was worth it.

Second truck (current) 2004 F150. Good price, well below KBB and still has factory warranty. Selling it though becuase I don't like the monthly payment and insurance.

1978 Project truck. Got hosed on it, I'll leave it at that

Newest truck, 1987 F250 4x4. A little more than I wanted to spend, but I got more as well. Still deciding on how good of a deal it was, still doing the "fix me" list before I register and start driving it.

 

Well, I don't cause I didn't buy it! But in all reality, I don't think $3500 was too bad for the '97 Dad got me. So yeah, I guess I'm satisfied.

at 14 i bought my 80 F-150 for 1500, he wanted 1800 but dad offered 1500 and he took it w/o thinking, i think we couldve stole it for 1000. Now im 15 and im about to buy a 550 dollar running 83 F-150 that a grandma drove on pavement back and forth to the shoe factory, w/ 61,000 original miles!!!!

 

Hell no...It was free!! I lied...Initially it was free, my uncle the orig. owner gave it to me. I've put about $10,000.00 into my 87...plus the $3,000 351w that came in it. I rebuilt, shimmed and installed a trac-lok diff from a 2003 Explorer which was also a free part.... Rust repair, brakes, brake lines all of them, mad stacks of wicked body parts, made my own lightning style exh. with NO CATS!!! Nor is there any trace or piece of emissions equipment left on it...And a FM Delta Flow 40 series, edelbrock 1406 4bbl., K&N filter, new tranny cooler and lines, radiator core support, distributor, new flange style locking hubs that even with my ford employee discount, cost $414.90 for 2 hubs., 15x8 Cragar QuickTrick chrome rims, LT23575R15 BFG T/A KO's. I did about 3/4 of the work whilst my buddy did my body work, the rear wheel wells are starting to rot out again, saw that coming anyway...only been a year since...This fall a ZF may replace the C6...but that isn't final yet...Gone through 2 windshields this year...
Nope...don't regret a damn thing...should have bought a better bed for it....
