1999 Ford Explorer turn signal issues
Whenever I use my turn signals after 5-10 seconds they shut off on there own before I even make a turn, and once this problems starts it get's worse. The signals are blinking normal... Say I am at a traffic light and stopped with my turn signal on to make a turn, while just sitting there after 5-10 seconds the signal will stop on it's own, and then it may turn back on after 5 seconds or so.
the turn signal lever is still activated when this happens also.

It might be the multi-function switch (name for the turn signal switch with high beam and wiper control). These seem to be a problem part on the Fords. I just replaced mine because my headlights stopped working and it solved the problem. The switch cost me about $52 at autozone. It looked exactly like the original one so I think it was from the same manufacturer. It is not hard to replace- a phillips screwdriver to take the steering column shroud off - have to bend the plastic a little, and a torx to get the switch off. A couple plugs to take off and you are back in business.
Does the turn signal work if you play with the switch - this is what happened with my headlights
