On a very hot day (90 + F) when I go out for lunch and crank my 4.6 F-150 (65K miles) It will fire right up but then goes dead. When recranked it will not idle and goes dead again. It will rev up and down detween 6 & 12 hundred RPMs then dies. If I drive it a couple of miles the problems clears up and it runs fine until I crank it on another hot day. Seems to be ambient temp. related.

This started very suddently. Was running great and "bam" problem started.

Any thoughts from anyone before I take it to dealer?

If I am not mistaken it sounds like the IAC but I dunno the more elite in this forum would definitely know.

 

I had the same problem I got a IAC from Advance Auto for $48.00

 

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. I would take some fuel pressure readings.

 

My 1998 F-150 4.6L did the crank and die thing. I cleaned the IAC and that fixed it for a couple months and then we started doing the crank and die show again. I replaced the IAC and that fixed for good.
