What does a failing injector feel like?

If running at highway speed (~70mph), what would a failing injector or an injector 'dropping out' feel like? Sometimes it feels like my vehicle loses a portion of it's power, but it doesn't vibrate and the gauges don't show anything. It just feels like I had a gusty headwind hit me. Today I accelerated pretty decent on the on ramp and about 1 min later (running along at highway speed) it started to vibrate.

Some of you know that I recently had a fuel pump failure and I'm wondering if an injector(s) is getting ready to go bye-bye.

Diesel tech is on vacation this week...

Thanks,
Paul

It feels like a shudder... Almost like it's coming from the transmission- I had one go on my 03. It would maintain a constant speed but not accelerate when I gave it all the juice, just shook like "H E double toothpicks".

That's what this kind of felt like. I don't know if I had power to accelerate or not b/c I was looking for my spot to pull off if it decided to give up, but it cleared up after about 1min. It definitely shuddered enough to get my attention.

Thank you.

Bad injector

I just had an injector go out on my 05' The thing would shake or shudder like hell when trying to accelereate. Driving at interstate speeds was better but not perfect.

Mine truck is exactly like that, except if i mash hard it will pull thru the shakes
rather fast. Most trouble when in OD.
I'm glad to see I'm on the right track. Thanks!

BTW..when I changed the fuel pump it make a nice improvement in throttle response, but still get the shakes.

I had 2 injectors replaced...it would go down the highway just fine , even towing..but it smoked like a SOB...it had a slight miss at an idle...if you stoped at a red light it smoked up the intersection so bad you could hardly tell when the light turned green

I know it wasn't funny to you, but this brings up images of Cheech and Chong movies.

That's what's odd...I don't have any smoking while driving. Maybe a little puff when heavy on the throttle. The only major white smoke I get it when it's cold (engine and outside temp), but I attribute that to moisture burning off until it's warmed up.

I believe there are is a test procedure to determine if an injector is failing. Perhaps one of the techs (in this forum) can offer more info-

I stopped by the SD today to schedule an apt. Unfortunately, due to the diesel tech being on vacation and some schooling, he'll be playing catch-up and I can't get in for about 2wks...unless they fit me in sometime.

I informed them about my rough idle at cold(er) start-up, missing idle after sustained highway drive, and shudder at highway speed. I forgot to mention feeling of sporadic loss of power and some other details, but I'll try to talk directly to the tech when he gets back.

Since it'll be in anyway, I'll probably request the new injector flash (inductive heating?).

At minimum, I'll post back when they find out what's happened, but keep the posts/experiences coming.

Thanks for all your replies!

I haven't had to pay, but I think the injectors are about $350 each!?!? Not including labor I don't think.
