PCM ID help

I have come across a 2001 5.4 engine for my 01 4.6 expy. The problem is I was not able to get the PCM with the engine. I have seen numerous PCMs on ebay but I don't know which one to get. They have different part#s. I need to know what factors affect the type of PCM to get. I figure model year, engine size, transmission type, 4wd or 2wd to name a few. Or do all I need is any 01 5.4 PCM and just reprogram it with a tuner. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Chris

This is all I could find. I think the hardware is somewhat standardized, but you have to get the right calibration. I don't have any sources for stock calibration break downs, but some one here might.

Another option could be to have the vehicle towed to a dyno tuner and let the tuner modify your ECM to run the 5.4L effeciently.

Reprogramming would be the easiest way to go IMO, Someone like Troyer should be able to set a tune up on an Xcal2 to run it I would think, plus you'd get the performance benefits of a programmer.

I agree galaxie641. I talked to a dyno shop today and they would not have any problem tuning the engine with a Xcal2 programmer. I just have to tow it there. Thanks for the help guys. Chris

You don't even have to tow it there-load will be incorrect,so it'll reference the wrong cell the spark table, and the trans shifts will be a little bit odd until the displacement and spark stuff is corrected in the EEC's programming.
