you'd be surprised what we have put in my dad's company trucks (newer F-150s) he likes the deeper box because it contains stuff better, people don't always listen to what the payload ratings are, i have seen F-150s with more than 600# over their rating, the truck lowers in the back but it gets the job done and the truck still work for another 150k mikes, also the trucks would look very weird if they had a more shallow box, the rear visibility is fine in them, that's just my opinion

Fair enough, all of our trucks (including my dad's gmc) have been well over their GVW rating at one time or another, I probably don't want to know what my two fords have been through in a previous life lol.

I guess it soes sortof make sense though, not many people buy f150s with 8f boxes anymore, so the exta volume could come in handy. I mention the visibility thing because I have heard of others complain about it.

BLK94F150 has a very good reputation on FTE.BLK94F150 has a very good reputation on FTE.BLK94F150 has a very good reputation on FTE.BLK94F150 has a very good reputation on FTE.
If I could ask for one thing it would be-

-Manual tranny with all engines.

If I could ask for many things-

-Manual tranny with all engines: That would cure most of the power problems and increase fuel economy

-Real Hubs: More reliable and increases fuel economy by disconnecting the axle shafts

-Electric cooling fans: Faster heat up/cool down, better AC at low speeds, increased fuel economy

-Go to some sort of direct valve actuation: Cut down on moving parts, increase fuel economy

-Go back to C channel frame: Lose the unneeded weight of the boxed frame, increase fuel economy

-Bedside lockable storage: Need I explain?

-Small diesel like the 4.4: Low end power, increased fuel economy. Power in the 300HP/450ft/lb range. Cross it over into the SD series as well.

-Interior light/dinger deactivation switch and cargo light turn on switch.

On a totally different note-3-4 cyl diesel for Ranger.

Mike

We have one of those too. Ford offered a 2.2NA and a 2.3TD lateron in the mid 80s for the ranger. Ours has the later 2.3 mitsubishi turbo. It won't do a burnout, but you can keep up with traffic and get great fuel economy while doing it. It will likely outlive the truck (it already outlived the donor vehicle).

Ford went with a boxes frame for the better torsional stiffnes (the cab and box don't move in opposite directions when cornering) and they got good reviews for it. But it does come at a price, and I can tell you that a LWB 86 truck will corner just fine even with its very flexible frame.

You may think I'm crazy for saying this, but I think the cummins 3.9L diesel could be a good fit. Its only 170hp but with over 300ft/lbs of low end torque, 22+ real world mpg should be possible. Ford is working on a diesel option for the f150, but we'll have to see how it turns out. The new 6.4L for the superduty, was a disappointment in terms of fuel economy, and will be replaced after only a few years.

There's a lot of wasted potential in every aspect of the ranger.

Ford offers a really nice mid size truck in australia (Its called a ranger, but looks better), not one, but TWO different turbo diesels to choose from (2.5l and 3.0l), and guess what - they come with a crewcab. 6600lbs of towing and an avalable close ratio 5 speed manual transmission, it is also capable of close to 30mpg. Yeah, I'd consider buying one of those..........

If memory serves, the stock numbers are comparable to a N/A 6.9l diesel. It seems to be a very nice truck, you should check out the ford falcon ute while you're at it.

Yep, thats the one. I've never bought a new vehicle in my life, but if ford offered that unit around here (5 min. after hell freezes over) I would buy one.

........But I might find myself distracted by one of these bad boys....

http://www.fpv.com.au/cars/f6-tornad.../overview.aspx

Another version of it is avalable with a 5.4l that puts out nearly 400hp and about the same for torque. Why can't the f150s around here do that?
