If I hadn't been reading Seattle newspapers for years, I wouldn't have believed this. It says "may be banned" but it is good as done now, just a formality. What planet are these people from?
SEATTLE (PI) -- High school sports fans may be banned from booing. The organization that oversees high school sports in Washington is considering rules for fans to ban booing and offensive chants.
The WIAA already prohibits any negative commentary relative to officiating.
Pom-poms with printed text on them and artificial noisemakers are not allowed.
Printed foam fingers are also banned. Only the official school banner may be in the stands; no other signs are allowed.
WIAA officials also say the guidelines remind fans to cheer for their team, and not against the other. "I don't know why people think it's acceptable to boo in the first place," WIAA executive director Mike Colbrese said. "It's a pretty novel concept to me."
Some of the state's top coaches believe a boo ban is extreme. "They're kidding, right?" asked Rainier Beach High School coach Mike Bethea."
Bethea said not all of the hundreds of fans that attend high school games would know the rules, and it would be ridiculous to penalize the players or schools.
The ideas came from a 15-person committee of school administrators that met last fall to discuss sportsmanship, he said. "What we're trying to teach our fans is that you have to be civil. Just because you bought a ticket you can't be irresponsible or disrespectful."
Yeah, doesn't supprise me one bit. But do they really think that would work. I mean have you ever been to a high school basketball game. Everyone in the stands has said something bad about the refs at one point or another and I've never heard anything about any penalties for doing it. Good luck with this one.
After the laughter ended, I pondered this a bit, and came up with the following reasoning. Those kids being booed will develope complexes that will require many years of therapy. If they are unable to get the proper counselling, they will develop into future dredges of society. This would result in needing more police. Thus resulting in tax increases to pay the salaries. Since we are already overtaxed, they are really trying to save us money in the long run...They were not actually considering the competative nature that sports bring out.

Its all about all the touchy feely liberals trying to run your life as if they are the nanny
who know better. And i have never heard of a study that showed kids who were booooed ever turned into ax murderers or anything else.

It's part of the touchy-feely "it's ok to fail" mentality that they are throwing at kids now. I know, if you get told once in your life that you are bad at something it just scars you forever............

they should just bring a bunch of signs to there games spelling
out the word BOOOOO, when was the last time you'all heard
someone getting in trouble for thinking??? Course this excludes

Those rules are how much the WIAA and school board already regulated the fans at games. Add "Boos" to the list.
The school board, with the governor's and legislators' consent, recently relaxed the WASL standards for math (42% Failed) and science for the next few years so that the students could graduate. To me that means the teachers and school board have admitted they can not teach their own requirements and are giving up. And so a good portion of the high school graduates will continue on to college, still not knowing how to:
Write a check or balance the books (because going into debt with a credit card is easier.)
Fill out a form 1040EZ, a no-brainer but still requires basic arithmetic.
Describe the basics of our Solar System or photosynthesis.
But they will graduate and go on to college. Party time!
Education living up to the state's own standards is where the schools' emphasis should be, rather than deliberating on how to regulate extracurricular activities, like sports, and punish the teams with fines for waving a banner or booing.
