From what I understand (from this site) the factory where the engines are made began adding nickel anti-seize to the plugs sometime during the '05 model year.

55, this was a problem with late 04 and early 05 trucks. I believe the 06's are "safe"

Talking

I tell you what guys id go ahead and get the PLUGs changed NOW. Its cheaper than waitting around an doing it at 100k, thats horse**** anyway!!! 100k on a set of plugs, yea your really getting the best preformance out of them as if you would if you changed them at say 50k. Just something to think about and the amount of FUEL your blowing away and the price just shot back up to like $2.40 for 87 Oct.

Well guys I wanted to make sure that the 06's were safe and they are not. I have 32000 on my 06 and I pulled the plugs they break loose with about a half a turn and then get very hard to turn. I managed to get all mine out without breaking and put antisieze on them and reinstalled. All of the plugs had rust on the heat shields and thats what made them hard to come out I am confident in them now.

Was there any indication that anti-seize had been there on any of the plugs? Just trying to determine if the plugs had them with anti-seize from the factory. My wife has a 2006 Expedition, I may have to pull those to make certain they'll be okay in the future.

I saw no indication of anti seize on the plugs. When I get a chance I will post a pic of the plugs.

Do you apply it on "tube shaft" on the bottom of spark plug? dont you think it will cause clogged?

Thanks!
YOMAN!

Yes, apply it below the threads, where the corrosion occurs and the carbon sticks to the body.

You don't want much more than a real thin, well-rubbed-in film, or it's just going to get deposited on the top side of the hole anyway since the clearance for the plug body is so tight.

I'm confused about a few steps in the process.
1.Why would you put anti-seize on the electrode instead of the threads?
2.Why would the engine "hydro-lock" from some PB blast in the cylinder?

I've done my share of mechanical work but depending on what the dealer charges to change a set of plugs, I might just have them do it and save me the hassle. My 05 is 18 months old and has 33,000 miles on it.

1. The threads are not galling and causing the breakage. The breakage comes from the shank below the threads seizing in the head, which is why the anti-seize is applied to it. Do not put it on the arcing area of the electrode.

2. It probably won't lock from "some", but it also probably doesn't take very much to fill the combustion chamber enough to make a real ugly mess of the engine. Liquids and combustion chambers do not play well together.

Is there a difference in the stock plugs and the ones that you installed or are they the same? I noticed the stock plugs cost $7.97 and the next brand above that was $12.97. I'm wondering if it would matter if I purchased the more expensive brand.
