Here is whats going on.
2010 Ford Ranger 2wd 2.3 motor 184,000 miles
From starting the truck I cannot move in D or R, but if I put it into drive D1 or drive D2 then I can use R.
Cannot take off in D.
I drive it by starting in D1 or D2 then shifting up to D.
All this works better with overdrive turned off.
Replaced fluid and filter. No metal flakes.
I replaced the output shaft speed sensor and unplugged the negative battery terminal for an hour today because that's the code I had seen.
Still doing the same thing .

Any help is much appreciated.

 

You've described what happens when the overdrive one way clutch fails. The trans needs to come out and get at least partially torn down to replace this.

 

Any idea on cost and if I go that far should I just get a full rebuild?

 

If it were mine I would go with a full rebuild. I am very out of touch with current prices.
