I have a '97 and a '02 4x4 ranger, both 5 speed auto. The '97 just rebuilt by a former ford tech that went out on his own. He said the bonded gasket is now superceeded and is now updated to a thicker plate instead, He found a bonded plate but they are getting hard to come by now. Anyone else hear of this?
Well the '97 was really messed up, wouldn't work after rebuild. I Let him pull the valve body out of the '02, and we made progress but it still wasn't right. Pulled body again and looked at the gasket (bonded) and saw that one of the passage ways on the case was warped because it showed up on the gasket. Case was warped. So since the '02 is smashed up at the moment he swaped cases with each other. Gives him a chance to go throgh and check out both trans!!! I'm okay with that!!!

I saw this post, maybe someone here can help me out.
I've got a 2003 Ford Explorer. Automatic Transmission. The O/D light is flashing, and the Service Engine Light came on with a code P0775 Pressure Control Solenoid B Malfunction. The symptons while driving is the car revs up a little bit to much while shifting gears.
I have seen the posting regarding the leaking seperator plate gasket, but the TSB only goes up to 2002, so I am thinking this may not be the problem, but instead a bad solenoid.
After reading for hours I decided to ask! I shifted into reverse today, and once I was already moving, gave it a little gas, not alot, but anyway it made a lound bang and I thought the drive shaft hit the ground. After that when you hit reverse you can here and feel it try to back-up then acts just like it's in neutral. Can someone tell me what may be the problem. Maybe time for a rebiuld? 192560 miles on it and no major problems til now. Thanks for any and all help. It was serviced about 4mths ago. It has been working fine with no noises or slipping. It just happened all of a sudden. 97 xlt ext cab 4.0 AOD 192560 miles.
I figured it would need a rebiuld, but I was just wondering what may have broken in it? You know just curious. Oh yeah do you have a guesstimate on what the cost might be? Thanks.
I have a 97 explorer 4x4 I'm having a slipping in reverse would that be the shift kit problem also
a little more info my explorer is a 4.0 sohc control trac with 130000 miles the slipping at first was random and only after driving several miles but is happening more often now i did the manual first engine braking and it seemd as if it was in neutral so could this be the seperator plate and or the shift kit problem
thanks for help homie
I have a 2001 ranger 4x4 auto, my trans seems to take a moment to go
into reverse, then a clunk. The forward gears seem fine. Had the trans
flushed, still seem to have this problem. Any idea's
Thanks.

That clunk going into reverse has always been such a common problem on rear drive vehicles that mechanics took to telling everybody 'they all do it, it may be annoying but don't wory about it'. My old Dodge did it, so did my GMC. My old 87 F150 didn't, but it was a manual. Sometimes its U joints, or I've thought it was a sloppy differential but after having it checked for excessive backlash, everything was in spec. As I've been getting older and wiser, I'm beginning to think that it's related to that same clunk that you get when comming to a stop and easing up on the brake. That problem has been confirmed to be the tranny yoke getting dirty and sticking. There is normal movement in and out there as the drivetrain and suspension are working. The cure is to remove the driveshaft and clean/lube the yoke and spline. If you get a chance V10-runner, try that. I'd be anxious to hear what you find. There are a couple of threads on the clunk at stop lights.
