swogee is starting off with a positive reputation.
My truck is a 2001 Ranger 4x2 with the 4.0L SOHC. It has a 5 speed auto (5R55E I think.). The only symptoms are that it lags when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. The overdrive light flashes or turns on as well. Engine breaking does occur in 1st gear and 2nd and 3rd gears still operate. I posted this info earlier in the thread. Cruise control still operates as does the speedometer. The ABS light does not flash. The truck has 65K miles on it the trans fluid is changed semiannually.

I'm just trying to find out about the solenoids people mentioned earlier in the post.

yours could be either a selenoid bypassing or not working and or a bad epc. if i was in your shoes i would replace all of the orings on the selenoids, test them all and replace the epc. than it ensures that you should be in there only once. i could be wrong though.

"guys, is anyone still planning on doing the trans fix anytime soon?"

This weekend if all else goes well, I'll post a report. Mine is the one with little or no 1st gear braking and a flare between 2 and 3 that stopped the second I paid for the parts

ok, a couple things.

make sure u start all bolts before tightening. MAKE SURE TO HAVE BONDED GASKETS, and please make sure to use the torquing sequence i provided. u have to torque say 45 the first round, and then full the second round. these valve bodies are VERY sensative to torque. please read my tutorial again before doing the job. ive had 3-4 users who have had this work perfect and 1 that is still having problems. im not sure if it has to do with something going wrong or torque being off.

another thing i am finding, make sure that you leave the reverse servo in if at all possible.

i have talked with a ford mechanic and he said that when you do this tsb you should look up in the reverse servo gallery and make sure that the bands are still lined up. somehow they move over slightly and than the servo cannot contact them and do whatever it is that it does

Having lost my place where I can do this...has anyone had this done at a dealership or elsewhere? Did it go okay? How much did it run you?

Quick help needed on this

Did the separator plate bonded gasket change and TSB small valve change per the detailed instructions on the site here, put it all back together and can't get the gear selector out of park. I did remember to push on the break pedal but still no go.

Any ideas before I drop the pan again?

I'll do that and let you know, thanks for your help. I wonder if it's possible that I did not put the 'spring lever' (for lack of a better word) back on the right place on what looks to me likes detents where the linkage comes in, the lever I mean is the one that is held in slight tension by one of the valve body bolts. I did take pictures that clearly show how it was before I took it apart
