Disappointed in MPG of my 6.4L

The dealership delivered my truck to my house which is about 200 miles away. The computer said it was getting 14.0 mpg when they delivered it. I drove it around the city for a little while and the computer dropped to 12.0 mpg so I set the trip and figured it myself today. I drove 159 miles and all but maybe a couple of miles were on the highway and I noticed my fuel gauge was about on half so I stopped and filled up with 13 gallons. That gives me about 12.2mpg. Now normally I have a lead foot, but I was wanting to see what the best milage I could get would be so I set the cruise on 65mph and drove in the right lane at a constant speed.

If 12.2mpg is what I get on the highway when I'm not pulling a trailer and I'm driving 65mph, then I think I'm going to be really disappointed. Now granted my truck only has about 1,000 miles on it, but when my 2001 F-350 7.3 was new it sure didn't get 12.2 empty on the highway.

My new truck is a F-350 6.4L automatic trans. 4x4 with 3.73 if that matters to anyone. Any ideas guys? I saw a previous poster state he was getting 19.4mpg driving 63mph so I was pretty excited, and then I got mine and am not seeing the same results. I just don't see the efficiency increasing significantly when I get it broken in. Right now I'd be happy with 15mph. Any advise is appreciated.

It should improve as it breaks in. I wouldn't doubt you will be close to those #'s when it is all said and done. I have been watching the Duramax and they are the same. They say 10k miles seems to be ballpark where mileage takes off for what its worth. You might have a collectors item on your hands. Pity, I was looking forward to the 6.4 whooping some serious butt.

granted i can see being disappointed but this is a HUGE truck that weighs a lot, so i mean isn't that kinda of expected. I imagine and you break in the truck it will go up but i doubt it will be much. whatever happens you got a sweet truck, i haven't even seen a pic and i already know it is a sweet truck. goodluck

Everyone I've seen who has posted about getting good mileage has the 250 and I have a 350. Anyone with a 350 getting good mileage?

Anyone heard of any injector problems? This was posted over on diesel stop in response to my post:

"They have some serious injector issues. An issue with a supplier. This info came from someone at International. I would love to tell you who he is and what he does to validate what I am saying but I cannot. They are working with the supplier right now to resolve the issue.

You are one of many that are having serious issues with mileage. There is another person getting 6 mpg loaded with a small load and 10 mpg highway unloaded."

Someone else over on diesel stop also responded saying he too had heard of this issue. This is the first time I've heard this mentioned. If there is a problem, hopefully they'll figure it out soon.

Same here....I only have 400 miles on mine, but the best I can get in town so far is 9.2 mpg. And that is babying the throttle.

Difference between 250/350? Yeah, the badges on the sides and a taller lift block in the rear. No ACTUAL differences.....sorry.

I'd keep a good record of your fill ups... I don't think you can get an honest reading out of one tank or even a couple. If you have less than 1000 miles on a truck, my guess is you have only filled it 2 or 3 times. (I get 450-500 miles on the hwy per tank) i have seen a steady increase in mileage on my 06. Give er time and she will come up for you.

now tell the truth, non of us buy these big trucks with fuel mileage in mind.
I ordered my f-350 c.c. three days ago and it will be a work, snow plow truck so I know ill get awful milagage. and i put the small fuel tank on it. hopefully it gets enough milage to handle one snow storm without filling up in the middle of it. now if i can only get a 6.4 ot of internaional to put in it.
